A number of major smartphone vendors are widely expected to take the Barcelona stage next month to showcase their latest innovations and commercial-ready flagship products, but only a couple have confirmed the times and dates of these exciting MWC 2019 announcements so far.
You can now add Oppo to this short list, with the company’s next “innovation event” officially scheduled for 2 PM CET (8 AM EST, 5 AM PST) on February 23. It’s no big secret what Oppo plans to unveil two days before the official start of the 2019 Mobile World Congress, based on the Twitter tagline used to build further hype around this Innovation Event.
You’ll want to “get closer” and check out the company’s groundbreaking 10x lossless zoom technology, which actually made its formal debut in China last week. Unfortunately, an “international” demonstration at the world’s largest mobile industry exhibition in Barcelona doesn't necessarily mean a commercial device using this one-of-a-kind triple camera solution is right around the corner, let alone headed for Western markets.
That could happen, of course, but some of you may remember how Oppo took the wraps off 5x lossless zoom smartphone technology back at MWC 2017 without ultimately managing to integrate that into a product people could actually buy.
On the bright side, there are other things to expect from Oppo on February 23, including a new “wide zone optical fingerprint recognition technology” developed in partnership with industry veteran Synaptics, which aims to considerably extend the area in which future phones will be able to scan your fingerprint for safe unlocking and mobile payment authorization.
There’s also a good chance Oppo will be ready to go into more detail regarding its foldable and 5G device plans for Europe, so you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled for our coverage of this exciting February 23 event.
