The freshly introduced HTC Desire Eye is focused on fantastic selfies, not wild gaming performance. This doesn't mean that HTC's latest smartphone isn't a powerhouse that can get into a fight with most of this year's flagships and hold its own against everyone but the monstrously tricked-out Samsung
Galaxy Note 4.
A pair of 13MP cameras and attractive design aside, HTC gifted its latest Desire phone with almost the same internals that power the HTC One (M8) - namely, a bigger 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a slightly smaller 2400mAh battery. A flagship level of performance is to be expected of this configuration, thus it comes as no surprise that the Desire Eye performed superbly in our preliminary benchmarks. For example, the selfie-centric smartphone scored better than the
Samsung Galaxy S5 in Geekbench 3. The AnTuTu result is a tad disappointing, but it can be explained by the phone running a possibly unfinished software build.
We've put the preliminary benchmark results in the gallery below for your viewing pleasure. Once we obtain a finished retail unit, we'll know for sure what the HTC Desire Eye is really made of.
