Best Android camera apps: camera replacement (2015 edition)
Having a smartphone in your pocket is empowering. But with a capable camera, it is inspiring - you can take really great shots in most conditions. However, even with the option-rich Android, every smartphone comes with a different stock camera app and while some are extremely capable and easy to use, others are the opposite - a maze of menus that often don’t provide the manual controls you might be looking for.

And the problem with that is that the more you get into photography, the more you want - more settings, more effects, more tweaks.

Luckily, there is a bunch of application on the Google Play store to help you take your photos to the next level.

More settings, more effects, more tweaks

Even if your phone has a great camera app (we’re particularly fond of the HTC One M8's rich and intuitive camera interface), we encourage you to try some of these apps below that will still offer new settings and options.

We've picked out only the very best Android photography apps so far in 2015 right below, but feel free to also share your favorites in the comments section.

Camu

Price: Free
Download on Android

Simplicity: it’s the key to a good camera app, and a sore spot for otherwise rich in functionality Android camera apps. Luckily, Camu is a beautifully simple app with live preview of awesome, adjustable effects, and the best black and white mode we've seen on Android, period. Switching between filters is as simple as swiping sideways, while adjusting the intensity of each filter happens with vertical swipes. You can also make collages, add text, and shoot video with live filters.

Google Camera

Price: Free
Download on Android

Google has released its own Camera app, and if you don’t have it on your phone, it’s simply a must-have. Quick and bringing advanced options like Photo Sphere, and 360-degree Panorama, it is an intuitive and easy-to-use app. It also has the awesome Lens Blur option that allows you to achieve a bokeh-like effect and adjust the focus of an image after you capture it.

Camera Zoom FX

Price: $2.99
Download on Android

Camera Zoom FX is an app that brings a lot of settings in a brilliant user interface that you’d instantly appreciate. Features likes stable shots, timer, time-lapse and burst mode are all on board.

lgCameraPro

Price: Free/$1.99
Download on Android

Just looking at the antiquated interface of the lgCameraPro, you might think that such an app has no place in our selection of modern, and capable Android camera replacement apps. While it's far from modern in terms of looks, it compensates with functionality, dipping deep in Android's camera APIs and allowing you to take a full manual control over video recording quality in particular. All else, you'd find in many other apps, but the most valuable asset of lgCameraPro is the option to select a higher bitrate for video. Most phones nowadays record 1080p at a bitrate of around 17Mbps, but with this app you'd be able to boost that to as much as 100Mbps, more than even some dedicated cameras are capable of.

Camera FV-5 is a professional camera application for mobile devices, that puts DSLR-like manual controls in your fingertips. Tailored to enthusiast and professional photographers, with this camera application you can capture the best raw photographs so that you can post-process them later and get stunning results. ProCapture

Price: $3.99
Download on Android

ProCapture adds advanced features to the Android camera experience, with multiple advanced camera shooting modes are supported: Timer, Burst, Reduced Noise, Wide Shot and Panorama.

Camera Awesome
