Apple confirms battery bug, seeds fix in iOS 5.0.1 to devs

Apple confirms battery bug, seeds fix in iOS 5.0.1 to devs
Apple has not only admitted that there is are multiple bugs affecting battery life in iOS 5 devices, but it has solid fixes in the works that should be released "in a few weeks." Apple began the day with a spokesman reportedly telling The Loop that a "small number" of users have been reporting battery life issues in iOS 5 devices, and that Apple has found "a few bugs" that are causing the problem.

This is a pretty nice bit of honesty from Apple, and to top it off, the company has begun seeding developers with a beta version of iOS 5.0.1. The update includes the bug fixes for battery life issues, as well as bugs with "Documents in the Cloud". The update will also be taking the multitasking gestures that iPad 2 users have been enjoying and adding them to the original iPad's gesture repertoire. And, if we have any Aussies in out readership, you'll be pleased to know that the update will improve recognition of your version of English in dictation.

The update also has some undisclosed security fixes. The Apple spokesman also told The Loop that the bug fixes for battery life should be coming "in a few weeks", so we assume that's when we'll see the final version of iOS 5.0.1 roll out to users. Even better is this will be the first time users get to use the snazzy new OTA updates available in iOS 5.

Good to see they intend to fix it rather than ignore it.

It's probably AT&T network because I have a 3GS (waiting on my 4S) and it drops calls like crazy. - Although Apple did acknowledge there was a problem with the 4 and provided a solution "free case". - They fixed the problem in the 4S. - It's hard to redesign and change the internals of a phone once it has already gone into production.

thats a real change from the previous "your holding it wrong" and "we are not tracking you" scandals. good. maybe new leadership is just what the doctor ordered. So taco, is everyone still making it all up to be mean to apple?? lol

This is Apple after Steve's no longer there. They have some real promise to finally get rid of the reputation of being d%#@$ like their former CEO placed upon them.

None so far. Id say I gave them props.... Jobs isn't around to say "working as intended"

Add one more to the mix who won't hate. I applaud Apple on their response to the bugs found. No fuss, minimal drama. The bugs are found and squashed while being openly acknowledged by the company. See, guys? No double standard here. Apple does something right, and they'll get props for it, the same as everyone else.

Siri: "Sorry, I can not compute you bitching at me, but i found this: Google search results: Meijer sells Playtex tampons for $6.99"

"Even better is this will be the first time users get to use the snazzy new OTA updates available in iOS 5." I bet that they did this on purpose to test the OTA updates without announcing it haha.

Considering the precedent set with design issues/embarrassing bugs at Apple by Steve Jobs, this is... I won't say surprising, because Jobs isn't around to be an asshole to a complaining customer or to spin bulls**t about "other people have this problem, but we don't. " however, I wasn't sure how Apple would respond this time around. I'm glad to see that they didn't follow Steve's example. I'm glad to see they did a good job by not making excuses and simply busting their asses on fixing the issue instead. So, in the end, this will simply be a footnote, not remembered down the road. It'll be like the batch of defective screens in the first DROID Xs, or the wifi bug in Android servers, or the battery life/speaker issue on the Boulder in the G'zOne series. This is the kind of behavior, which along with a changing attitude toward constant litigation against competitors and more equitable relationships with business partners, could help sway my opinion of Apple away from animosity and back toward a healthy respect, even if I prefer someone else's products. The same standard could apply to you too. You're intelligent enough to know what I mean by that. Learn from this, Taco. You idolize Apple, so follow the example they've just set.

It takes quite a bit to be the bigger man like this Snig.. And hopefully taco follows suit. I myself feel the same way.. my anger towards sheep is due to them blindly following the BS that SJ was as a person.. If Apple can become a decent company.. Quit with the patent race and just give their customers a amazing phone (4s is piss poor compared to what they could really offer if they focused their finances and productivity into rnd) maybe changed their slight of tongue in marketing and just put up then most Android fans might go to Apple.. Sure jobs did quite a bit for the company.. But not much for customers.. The tech is there.. Give it to the people. Apple fans should understand they aren't getting the full potential of what the company could give them.. Sure its shiny.. But not magical.. No innovation.. A mid range phone to say the least.. The list goes on. Apple may be making a turn for the best hopefully the sheep will see they deserve better not by Android but by Apple.

Strongly second this. The scene became ugly only when Apple made it so. They are creating competition not with their products but with their attitude. What they do best is antagonize people.

Odd a midrange phone that's copied by everyone. Siri is way ahead of what android offers for example bit takes better pictures and has smoother and more stable performance. A better ecosystem with way better and more secure apps. iCloud is better than googles cloud services. Apple beats android in just about every way. Only thing google has is free navigation.

and everyone knows- android NEEDS to give out stuff for free, otherwise they wouldn't even be able to hold a candle to the like of the Iphone

Haha true! No one would pay for googles services.

That's just you being delusional.. Camera lol google the best camera on a phone.. And let's not hear speed but quality.. What took Apple months developers did in 8 hours. smoother? Lol easily done when your phone isn't running anything.. Multitasking isn't a problem with my phone... What's iPhone 4s clocked at? Lol laughable. Behind the curve. App security? Lol I choose what goes on my phone.. I don't need a program to rule my life.. My phone is an extension of me.. I can customize anything I want so its different from any other phone.. Yours is just a carbon copy of every other persons iPhone. You don't even have a iPhone 4s compare your pos to the best on the market.. You fail in every way.. Crawl back into your cave troll. Your arguments mean nothing.. Get a better phone then step up.. Till then leave your comments in a place where they mean something.. maybe under your pillow cuddle with them for all I care. You rally your words to fight for something you don't even own.. Go play with your dads 4s.. Or your friends our even yourself.. Make better use of what's between your ears.
