Report says China Telecom to get both Apple iPhone 5 and
According to Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White, a Chinese language site called Sohu.com is reporting that China Telecom and Apple have worked out a preliminary agreement. According to the agreement, the Cupertino based firm will provide the world's largest mobile carrier with not one, but two Apple iPhone models this fall.

One model will be the brand new Apple iPhone 5 and the second will be a cheaper "re-tooled" version of the current Apple iPhone 4. As we reported, there has been speculation that a plastic encased model of the current iPhone was being produced by Apple. With Android models spanning the range from low-end to high-end phones, Apple would like to be able to offer different versions of its iconic touchscreen phone to fit with customers varying spending plans. The models could help bring in $68 billion for Apple over the long term according to analyst White, a staunch bull on the company's stock.

Apple is a high end company with a high end experience. I would hate to see them produce cheaper models and water down the brand. If you want a cheap phones there is plenty of phones you can get. This would most likely just be a finical move sigh.

Yes..Apple stands for quality and should be sticking to it. Why people pay for their products is due to the quality and uniqueness. For those who want cheap stuff, you always have Android and Windows Phone!

This is huge for Apple. Doesn't China Telecom have 600 million subscribers?

I don't think having a cheaper iPhone is such a good idea. Like biophone said above, apple is known for making high end devices with top notch materials. I don't want to see them slip away from that just so they can appeal to a broader audience. Though, I am sure it will bring in a lot of money.

I think Apple is starting to think in terms of market share now. For better or worse we will see what happens.

Well, probably by using cheaper materials to create the phone, a downgraded camera without flash, making the screen a bit smaller, slower processor...

Those are a few things that come to mind :p

The worst thing is Apple will probably still charge us at least €500 for this "simplified" iPhone -_-"

Hope Apple understands that less expensive doesn't mean cheap. iPhones last forever, and the Apple Army expects that. They deserve the benefit of the doubt though when it comes to their product, it seems they have known what they are doing up until now. Those that do not like to pay premium prices will grab this just like they did the 3GS all this time.

As for iPhone 5, bet it is a moderate success. :-0

Yeah, but wasn't there just a story on P.A. about a guy whose iPhone dropped out of his pocket while he was skydiving and it still worked?

I think apple should just stick to producing quality products as thier goodwill lies in "quality" but to combat the cheap duplicate versions in the chinese market, it is good step and cheap versions should only be limited to chinese market...

China Telecom actually only have about 95 million subs and uses CDMA network while China Mobile has over 600 million subs and uses GSM network so the editor has this whole thing mixed up he wither meant to say China Mobile and got that logo right or he meant to say China Telecom and got the wrong logo this is China Telecom's logohttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/94/China_Telecom.png
