Messaging fix coming for Droid X devices running froyo
The bug in the software update is causing messages to be arranged in a non-chronological order. When a new message is received, the message displays itself in the middle of an already existing conversation. Normally the latest message would show up down bottom, with the rest of the messages shifting upward.
Not all users have experienced this issue, but for those that have Motorola is adamant about a software update that will soon be rolled out to Droid X devices over-the-air. For all of the Droid X users out there, have you experienced this SMS error with your Android 2.2 update? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.

Im more concerned with how many times my wifi now stops and how slow and laggy scrolling on the browser is.

I know how you feel, it seems the Droid X is just going to go through what the original Droid did. I had all these problems, except the messaging bug, heck I didn't even have that!

so far ive had no problems with my text messaging. does it matter what messaging application you use though? i know a few people that use like handcent and other downloaded applications, but i still use the stock application and im fine. regardless, love the update. my only complaint is that the speed of the device on the homescreens is not very consistent. sometimes itll be fast then sometimes a little slower. never freezes though. like i said, i love it.

i have never seen a difference in the speed of any screen. that has stayed the same since the update. it didnt seem to do a whole lot for my phone.

Overall I'm rather unimpressed with the Froyo update. No issues for me with SMS, but in general the phones seems a tad more sluggish than before...maybe it's the extra bloatware I can't get rid of w/o rooting now?

Try downloading launcher pro, you lose the ability to resize widgets the way you can with Motoblur but other than that the advantages are amazing. It allows you to "hide" all the bloatware so while it may still essentially slow your phone down (Which I don't notice but apparently many others do) you don't have to look at it. There are many other things launcher pro allows you to do but you just have to mess with it...

I am having the problem of new messages appearing in various order. Other than that I really like the upgraded texting, photo layout, camera, flash, etc. We just need a better facebook application!!!

I haven't texted much this week so I have no idea about the text issue. I am NOT happy with the gmail now. I have had a number of times when I hit the gmail icon it never loads the emails. I have to go out, quit, power cycle or something to get gmail to work.

i hate gmail. i was rather unimpressed that i had to get a gmail account to set up the dumb android stuff. so i have one, strictly for the phone. nothing else. i will never have an email sent to it. i have 4 other e-mail addresses that i use.

Just a messaging fix? What about the other 26 problems that the 2.2 update caused. What about a 2.2 .sbf file? How about removing Blur altogether. You know what's funny is that the leaked 2.2 is a 1000% more stable then the OTA 2.2, yes a 1000% more! Have you herd of the leaked 2.2 bricking a phone? I'm not talking about a soft brick where you could just .sbf it and everything is great. I'm talking about 100% bricked where the bootloader is broken. It happened to me, so I took it to VZW the other day and they said that they have never herd of this happening before. So they gave me a replacement that had a blown in call speaker. So I took it back to VZW within 3 days they've had 12 people since me that the OTA 100% bricked their Droid X. What about removing Bloatware. I mean come on, Blockbuster is about to go out of business. Virus makers do this same crap it's called ad-ware. So now Motorola is on the same level as virus makers. The Droid X is a great piece of hardware but the morons at Motorola can not screw it up any worse. What am I talking about yes the can it's called the 2.2 OTA update. I would recommend going with custom ROMs while dealing with the Droid X they are a 1000% more stable then the crap Motorola is releasing.

Since doing the upgrade, my phone wants to display things in landscape mode no matter how I'm holding the phone when I open the notification bar. Anyone have that problem?
18. mr. droid (Posts: 278; Member since: 21 Aug 2010)
kind of. if the phone is tipped more than 10-degrees or so, it will land scape. i think that is what motorola had in mind when they made this phone, was that this is how people would be holding the phone unless it was being used for voice or a real fast text responce.

The SMS bug is so frustrating! I have stopped SMS activity (I don't respond to received SMS or send new SMS) until it gets sorted out. Also, the stock browser seems slower loading pages and scrolling. I thought v. 2.2 was supposed to be quicker (at least it is quicker on a friends EVO (who is not in a 4G area)). One more item - the stock browser on the EVO renders the actual web page rather than defaulting to a mobile edition web page on the Droid X. What a frustrating experience. Glad I am on a 1 year contract. If Verizon/Motorola can't get their act together, I will be moving on.

i get the whole web page. the only issue i have is the order of text messages. thats it. nothing else. it made mine faster for that matter. i put in a URL, hit enter and BANG, its up infront of me. the whole page also. not a condensed version.

yes. i have. in the thread, the new message is at the top, but when i get a new message from someone, it can be stuck somewhere in the middle of the list from all the people. its a pain. i downloaded an app that makes my messages pop up right away, and that solved the issue for now. but if a fix arrives, i will remove that app and go to the standard set up. that is the ONLY issue i have had with the 2.2 update.. so far.

Lets see... messaging bug, video camera wont come on without a reboot, wont go into vibrate correctly, dialpad sometimes wont work while on a call...and theres probably more bugs!!! I hope the update fixes them all....
My phone is having text issues, I send messages and like people say there coming in separate messages or some people won't even receive messages
