Verizon's Blackberry Thunder renamed to Storm

hmmm, RIMs finally joined the band wagon. If they've added java to their blackberry phones, than they would be better than any other business phone out there.
...their whole OS is based of off Java!
All I have to say is GOODBYE iPHONE....so, Welcome back to Verizon Wireless iphoners, its been a while, and we hope you learned a valuable lesson. Dont you know once you go Black (berry) you never go back...
The name storm sounds pathetic. The name Thunder adds a punch.
Than don't buy it
A lot of things sound pathetic ever heard 'Jibb?' pathetic; but some how they still make it in the end (well not Jibbs...but BB will regardless of their name.)
yeah you could just be really gay and put an "i" infront of everything you make (LAME) iphone, ipod, idontcare, imasterbate....

Man I have been waiting for this device for forever... I really hope it delivers
im sorry, but this phone is gonna kick some major ass. and im not exactly a blackberry lover. cant wait to see it in action. and if it roams on verizons gsm towers too omg! can you hear me now???? and yes... verizon does own gsm towers.
no they dont...does att own cdma towers? no they dont. the only time verizon phones will use a gsm signal is if there is NO cdma signal available which basically means overseas. good luck though ill make sure to tell my co-workers about you statement so we can all get a good laugh.
You're both off the mark. VZW, AT&T and most of the carriers do not own significant percentages of the towers they use. They are owned by third parties that lease the space for the carrier licenses. The towers that are owned by the carriers, where zoning allows it, they lease the space to other carriers for their antennas.
verizon does have gsm tower if you read about the merger it talks about verizon keeping gsm tower until its all complete
Verizon owns it's towers and yes there are some GSM towers they have from the RCC (unicel) merger at this momemt but most will be converted to CDMA and the others will probably be sold to AT&T. Some companies like Sprint have sold their towers to a 3rd Party tower maintainance.
your a complete idiot. Who is RCC? RCC is a cell company that provided CDMA services to there 700,000 + customers. they also own GSM towers for other companies to roam off of. Who the hell do you think bought them? Verizon! Verizon has said that they will continue to operate the GSM service for roaming agreements with other companies. How about that for a good laugh you moron? I am the wrong person to be trying to pick a fight with. Do us all a favor and dive to the bottom of a deep pool and inhale! BTW, if you work for Verizon you should know this information. I for one do work for verizon and i DO know this information to be true!

Wow, you really should have bitten your tongue and never even said that because you just got PWNED!!!!!!!!
umm not really...because verizon does not own gsm towers...sorry but youre all wrong...gooday
i love how people assume they know a lot about carriers. for example people think our ptt service runs off of a qualcomm technology when its actually a motorola technology...unless you work for verizon and you have the resources to back up your theories shut your mouth, because half of the things ive just read were very untrue

PERIOD you better check you M&SO's before you try to pass arrogance for knowledge again.
ya know, when of you guys are trying to make a point, you should present hard evidence or a link to your source with your statement so others can believe you
atually At&T does own cdma towers. Back in the day when Cingular (GSM) and AT&T (cdma and tdma) joined forces, there was a migratory period where old att subs could use their cdma phones until the transition was complete. ATT kept the towers to sell the licensing rights. VZW owns GSM towers with the purchase of the rural cellular companies they have purchased.

The difference isn't that big in the name, both sound cool
Any chance this phone will come to sprint in the near future? Would love to trade in my 8830 work phone for the storm.
This is a VZW/Vodafone exclusive outside of Canada.
Sprint doesn't deserve it. :X

now this loks like an awsome phone....will it have vcast? i love vcast but i doubt it will?
As much as I love VZW's actual service... for some reason I just... dont want them to corrupt they new device with more of their software.
It may have rhapsody for music but No Vcast video. You can just go to Youtube or any other place on the web.
i realize that its the cool thing on here to talk about how verizon cripples phones with their user interface but its a blackberry interface... if this was a discussion on say a chocolate 3 or EnVy 2 then yes it sucks.. not on a smart phone... but you seemed to fit in for at least a few hours right?
And of course you missed the point. It wasn't about Verizons OS it was about applications that they were/are/going to/could add to the device later on or now. But that's ok you'll learn to read one day.
the only Smartphone to ever incorporate V-cast was the Q, that was only V-cast music and that was dropped in the newer addition, no chance on a BB..not missing alot besides V-cast music/rhapsody anyway
m.vcast.com from a vzw smartphone my friends. Go there and enjoy!
i just hope it isnt the size of the pearl....verizon needs a touch screen phone thats identical in size to the iphone.....or just the iphone altogether...
screw the iphone. The thunder will be a little smaller. A much more manageable size, but still bigger then the pearl
So will this be a CDMA phone with a dual-band GSM chip or a quad-band GSM chip? Also, isn't Rogers a GSM network?
yes it will have GSM for north america. That is why said that this phone may also be able to operate in the US off of GSM if CDMA is not available. But we will find out soon enough.
Anyone know if it's a capacitive touchscreen?? LG and their pressure sensitive screens suck, that's gonna be the make or break for me
LGs touch screens are one of the few touch screen phones that allow you to use fingernails and styluses these days. Sometimes certain things really require the use of a stylus and for women at least fingernails. The iphone doesn't do it, the glyde doesn't do it. The only phones outisde of smartphones that VZW carries that does it, is the Voyager and Dare. I find the touch on my Voyager to be much more responsive then the Glyde's and other touch phones here in the store.
I cant wait... finaly verizon has a true iphone killer!!!!!
Is that so???? To many an I Phone killer would be a phone that people would wait in line for days to purchase it. Although this is a very nice phone (PDA) I do not see people waiting in line for this. Once another phone reaches that level only then would I as well as many other consider it an I killer. I will also say that the touch interface will not match the I Phone. No matter how hard the try it just dosen't messure up/
Anyone who waits in line to purchase a PHONE needs to get a life.
i agree with you but those people with no life pay your salary if you are in this industry. So if you are in this industry next time you don't hit your quota, make sure you tell the no life people who wait in line for phones to maybe put their no life on hold to maybe do business with you. NOT
haha nice I agree.
Did you not hear about the sales of the voyager (i'm not saying its as good as the ipone)... verizon launched it with a total 25000 just like the ipone launched with... it took 30 days for all stores to sell out of the ipone and only 3 hours for verizon stores to sell out of the voyager.... and yes i work for a verizon store and i did have people waiting in line for that phone the day it launched along with also having a waiting list of 50+ people.
you can say what you want about all those crazy apple people that waited in line for the iphone. i work in a mall near an apple store and there was a line all the way around the mall. and the next day they couldn't get ride of the ones they had left in stock. . great, they had one big push but thats it. noone waited in line for the 3g iphone. and check you numbers. blackberry outsold the iphone in the first and second quarter this year. so whos better? it's personal preference but blackberry has the numbers in gross sales to back there quality!

Will this be usable in the Philippines or H.K. with a Globe or Smart sim card? Would love to pick one up before we go on holiday; otherwise, I'll just get a throwaway dumbphone.

VERIZON OWNS, I waited so dam long for this phone, do u guys know a price for the BB Storm
pricing hasnt been determined by Marketing. Verizon reps. dont even have info. to the phone yet...
i don't about the $$ just bring me the phone

Hopefully this phone will live up to the hype. It looks and sounds good so far. Wish I could afford the BB plan though. iPhone's overrated! Haha. That's just my opinion though.
everyone gets so exited and defencive over phones that arent out yet. Rim makes good and bad phones just like everyone else, including Apple. Curve = good phone, Pearl = bad phone. Iphone gen1 = good phone, 3giphone = badphone. Same thing. Quit being fanboys, and lets judge it when it releases. And for all those "i know more than you" people.. just knock it off, most of you are wrong when you spout out crap. Being RIMs first all touch PDA, its exiting and scary.. will it be beautiful or buggy? i cant wait to find out.

Can't wait for this phone! I don't know about Verizon dropping their GSM towers cause if you remember a while back Verizon did state that they would be converting to GSM in the future so it would make no sense to convert towers, drop them, or sell them when they are going to need them soon.
49. icarus (unregistered)
Verizon has never said they will convert to gsm. While LTE is considered very similar, if not the next generation of gsm, it's not the same thing And no, Verizon has NO gsm towers.
NO WiFi ?
54. 8ttype4 (unregistered)
A bunch of people on the crackberry.com and hofo furums are saying that it will have wi-fi.
