OS 5.0 now live for the Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tour 9630
Certainly on time as promised by Big Red, the highly anticipated OS version 5.0.0.591 for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 is finally here without a hitch. There were no unexplained delays or surprise happenings shortly before it was made available today to Tour owners who've been waiting patiently for their crack as the latest version of the platform. This update actually includes the feature to allow Tour owners to utilize push-to-talk on the handset and offers some improvements that make the over the air download a joy to execute. The biggest winner here has to be the spot on timing of its release – which fortunately did not meet the same fate as some other handsets we've seen of late. If you prefer, you can also download the update through Verizon's web site as well – so the choice is yours.

Why did this post take SO long to post? It was available first thing this morning. As for the "which fortunately did not meet the same fate as some other handsets we've seen of late", it did. We've been waiting on this update for a long time now, Sprint has had it for months. As for the upgraded OS, it's amazing. It's faster, smoother, much better ui, texting is 100% better, etc... It's like buying a new phone. Now that the 5.0 for the Tour is released, when are they releasing it for the original Blackberry Bold? PA posted awhile back the the original Blackberry Bold was supposed to receive 5.0, was that another inaccuracy from PA?

This is pathetic. Not only did Verizon not even bother to alert its users, but their device crashed and burned when I attempted to download it from blackberry.com. I was made aware of the release thanks to a friendly email from blackberry.com. Upon crashing = nice big Error 507 = Verizon's tech staff blamed the blackberry link and claimed that it never would have happened if I had downloaded it from the VZW site. Well, how was I supposed to even know it existed? Why keep this such a secret? That said, I luckily backed up my device before the download, but now I get to spend the majority of tomorrow customizing the (most likely refurbed) replacement phone Verizon is sending me. Thanks for nothing! I really hope this OS is worth it.

I had the same problem with updates to the Tour in the past, but they happened operating on battery doing OTA updates (yes my battery was full).

Hopefully it's just around the corner, 5.0 is impressive. I have a BB Tour and Bold 9000.

So, I've had the udpate for a little while and here are the Pros and Cons, I can't say these weren't in the last OS, but I didn't notice them. Pro Faster operation Pictures don't take as long to load (when viewing pics from memory card)Texting is almost identical to BB Messenger, much improved design MMS asks you if you want to resize before sending Cons Bluetooth issues, went away after restart When xfer to headset, incoming call rings Bluetooth still. Had to send to VM through BT, still rang after ignoring incoming call on handset. Unlock seems quirky. FYI Selecting contact for Compose SMS is different
