Donations to Haiti made by SMS can be delayed for up to 3 months
The outpouring support from people across the world to those who are affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti displays the charitable nature in everyone. Being able to pledge a donation via text messaging made it easy and convenient for anyone to aid victims that are suffering. The sheer amount of money piled up from this has been anything short of wonderful, but now it seems that donations won’t make it to their intended charities for up to 3 months. The reason behind it is that some mobile carriers don’t submit your donations to charities until you’ve actually paid your bill. Experts believe that donations will take at least one billing cycle before they reach their intended destinations – making it difficult in directly aiding those that affected right now. Thankfully Verizon has gone on to announce that they will advance those pledges to charities before they see payment from their customers –aiding those in need right now. Verizon customers have done their part in helping out by pledging approximately $3 million to the cause.

it is actually 3.6 million right now we are at, as of Friday evening, and we are making sure these funds will go out asap, we will eat the cost now and recoup later. Also VZW is going to a nationwide clothing drive for these people as well, details coming very very soon.

VZW usually does a lot to aid victims of any sort of disaster. If there was VZW in Haiti I am sure that COWS and COLTS would be all over the red cross tented city. I hope other carriers follow suit as well. I can't see AT&T laying back while VZW makes them look like the bad guy. Where's Luke Wilsons pathetic attempt at sacasm and rebuttal? "AT&T's users can browse the web, talk, and text their relief to Haiti, while VZW users can only talk and text."

Very respectable. I hope Sprint does the same. I just made a donation thru my church cus they have a group over there who already had a warehouse full of food for Haitian children when the earthquake hit. I'm still tempted to give another $10 thru text cus really...that $10 will do them more good than me.
