China Mobile users found sending SMS with illegal content will be banned
Citizens who engage in risky material such as sending or receiving SMS texts with inappropriate content will be banned – from China Mobile that is. The mobile provider is working with the Chinese government in providing a “checking system” to ban users caught in distributing pornography or other content deemed illegal by the government. It’s not specified at how this checking system will work – whether it be randomized or focused on specific users. Now the ban will only apply to cutting their text messaging service if they are caught distributing obscene, violent, or other “unhealthy” messages. Additionally to that, those caught will also be required to promise in writing to stop engaging in the distribution of such content in the future. This supplements the news surrounding Google’s decision to stop censoring search results in China. Obviously, those who don’t place themselves in risky business like that don’t have to worry about anything. But then again, one would question on what other stuff this new checking system might be planned to seek out.

Oh, China. Will you never rest until every possible form of human expression is censored?
