Alltel says bye bye to 2 year contracts and hello to 1 year
Remember the good old days when wireless carriers offered one year contracts? It was a time when the industry was beginning to boom and consumers needed to only wait a solid 12 months before their contract was up. Those times flew by quickly and now the majority of consumers are locked into 24 months. Alltel has announced that they will be reverting to one year contracts while retaining their normal subsidized pricing on phones. So this means that current prices on handsets for two year agreements will be the same for one year contracts! This ground shaking move commences tomorrow and will apply to each of the 91 divested markets. Certain Alltel markets will eventually end up in the hands of AT&T. Now it would really be a bold move if every other domestic carrier follows suit.
