AMPd Mobile rolls out on Dec 15

The Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) - Amp'd Mobile is expected to roll out next week, on December 15. The company will use the network of Verizon Wireless, which currently has the largest EV-DO deployment. Amp'd Mobile plans to offer only EV-DO capable handsets and the first one will be the dual-band CDMA plus AMPS slider - Kyocera Jet. The main features of the device are:

  • 262k color TFT display
  • BREW
  • EV-DO high-speed data
  • VGA (640x480) camera with flash and video capture
  • TransFlash memory expansion card slot
  • Push-to-Talk button
  • built-in speakerphone

There are no hints about what the price will be like. Actually the only thing known in respect of the pricing information is that users will be able to download 200,000 songs offered for about $.99 a song. The company also offers the so called dual downloads, i.e. to download one and the same song both on a mobile phone and a computer, offered by Sprint as well.
