European Samsung Galaxy S phones to taste Gingerbread in March

European Samsung Galaxy S phones to taste Gingerbread in March
Take this report with a pinch of salt, but a German site is alleging that the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S is to receive Gingerbread in March.

It is said that this information is coming straight from Samsung, but even if it is genuine, it's yet unknown whether only the German Samsung Galaxy S will get Android 2.3 or all European Galaxy S phones.

As you most likely know, all US versions of the Samsung Galaxy S were updated to Froyo recently (though some setbacks were reported), so it's unlikely that they will taste the Gingerbread flavour in the coming weeks.

With these facts present, it's fair to assume that we will have to wait some time before we get to know Gingerbread on our beloved Galaxy S devices. We would love to be proven wrong, though.

I would be happy with a Froyo upgrade for my Samsung Fascinate at this point. Still waiting...

I would disagree with this speculation since the SGS II will only just be kicking off at the end of March. I am putting money on a May-June release for Gingerbread on the original SGS to give the SGS II a good 3 month overlap and market penetration. Plus Samsung has to give insentive for people to buy the SGS II, and not many will want to jump across to a dual core phone that might be quicker, but esentially offers the same "experience" as the SGS. It also makes sense that May/June will be the last "major" update for the SGS before hitting "end of life" status.

more than likely the SGS1 will be "sold out of stock" within a week to a few days of the sgs2 launch. Bargainers will still grab the more than capable and still top of the heap SGS on clearnance while people that like the newest tech will grab the SGS2. I totally think they will hold off on the american 2.3 updates for the reason you mentioned though. Of course, the "official" 2.3 leak for the i9000 just dropped today, so XDA will probably have a workin rom wilthin the week for the other variants. so screw waiting. :)
