Totally dissapointed after E71

akbar has owned it for more than one year before publishing this review

After moving from E71 this feels like step backward. The build quality is worst than the E71. The back panel feels like it is made out tin foil. It has only 40MB of free memory after boot. Totally not suitable for serious multitasking.

The only advantage over E71 is the faster processor which you can feel in the application start up time. The other good thing is the ability to organize WiFi and 3g connections in one logical connection.

Build quality 7/10 The back panel folling off easy
Reception 10/10
Call quality 9/10
Internet 9/10
Multimedia 7/10
Camera 8/10
UI speed 8/10
Everyday usage 7/10 Awful multitasking. Opera mobile is practically unusable.
Text input 9/10
Display 7/10
Battery 7/10

  • 40MB RAM after restart

This was my first proper smart phone. I liked the full keyboard on it a lot as I use my phones for email a lot. I was disappointed though when I started to notice some shortcomings. Firstly I felt that as Nokia progressed the more they cluttered the UI and it became less user friendly. Also disappointed by the capabilities of Symbian and the lack of both manufacturer and 3rd party apps essential in a smartphone. All in all the phone does work, but just has some irritating quirks and is lacking something to make it special.

Build quality 8/10 Although it does feel cheap (beware of anything that tries to pass plastic off as metal) the phone is quite solid and durable.
Reception 9/10
Call quality 10/10
Internet 6/10 Screen is too small for most browsing and the interface makes interacting with websites a pain.
Multimedia 5/10 Small screen and lacking in multimedia apps
Camera 7/10 Pretty average, got some good snaps off of it provided light was ok.
UI speed 4/10 Choppy at best
Everyday usage 7/10 The phone functions well but some features make everyday use annoying, not bad, just annoying.
Text input 10/10 For such small keys typing is very easy due to their raised and rounded shape. Full keyboard is also a big plus.
Display 5/10
Battery 9/10 Battery is pretty good, lasts 3-4 days on average use.

  • Full keyboard
  • Good battery life

  • Irritating UI
  • Cheap feel to the build
  • Screen too small for serious smart-phone needs

n95 of the e-series

MRSHAH has owned it for less than year before publishing this review

brilliant set personally one of my favorites
outstanding allround set
for the business part that is was basically made for it offers excellent options with everything & feature a business user requires from messaging, emails. documents viewing & editing. to web browsing & connectivity & to top it off with excellent connectivity & call quality it brilliant
on the multimedia side the set isn't far from the brilliant nokia n95 either delivering superb music quality with clear sound which a also quite loud
as for the camera which had traditionally been a weak spot of nokia e series sets except for e90 this set is awesome with superb still pictures at par with n95 though video recording is not upto the mark but quite acceptable for a business set

in short to call e72 as a business set does not do justice to it's capabilities as a multimedia capabilities which are just as good
this is the perfect professional allrounder set of it's time & I can say it's better than even the n95s

Build quality 10/10
Reception 10/10
Call quality 10/10
Internet 7/10
Multimedia 9/10
Camera 9/10
UI speed 7/10
Everyday usage 7/10
Text input 10/10
Display 9/10
Battery 9/10

  • built quality
  • camera
  • call quality
  • battery life

  • video recording

Great potential that wasn't lived up to...

laith_88 has owned it for more than one year before publishing this review

I'm very disappointed with Nokia because this could've been a perfect phone. The best QWERTY keyboard yet, great camera, solid build, very good battery life, and naturally push email. Yet on the other hand, Symbian is a nightmare because of so little support and the nightmare of signing certificates, the 128 RAM is just terrible and to top it off the executable memory left after startup is only around a maximum of 40 MB, half-decent screen, and the internet browser is mediocre at best.

Build quality 10/10 Built well with metal encasing and tough plastic, it looks stylish and yet it's strong at the same time. It has survived many a fall without a scratch.
Reception 9/10 No problems there.
Call quality 9/10 Call quality is just fine.
Internet 7/10 The browser needs work, and you can't open large webpages or the browser will crash (never mind using Opera mobile).
Multimedia 7/10 Good enough. Music is not the best but it's fine.
Camera 9/10 It's 5 MP but it might be the best 5 MP out there. It can even beat a few 8 MP out there, especially because it has autofocus.
UI speed 7/10 Moving through menus is not as efficient in Symbian as it is in iOS or Android, but you can counter that by placing your favorite apps on the home screen.
Everyday usage 5/10 Low RAM is horrible. Multitasking is supported, but be warned: it's a nightmare. You will continuously get a memory full message followed by automatic termination of the application you're using. Very frustrating when you're using Ovi maps.
Text input 10/10 The best QWERTY keyboard there is. I have big hands and I have no problem typing fast on it because of the coned shape of the keys, the shortcuts and the text editing available (copy, paste, edit, select, select all).
Display 6/10 Display resolution is low and the screen is too small.
Battery 10/10 It can last with more than average usage from 1.5 - 2.5 days on one charge, provided you don't keep bluetooth and 3G turned on all the time.

  • QWERTY keyboard
  • Strong build with metal finish
  • 5 MP camera
  • Long battery life
  • Nokia maps is excellent
  • Flashlight and mirrored back

  • Terribly low RAM
  • Small screen
  • Low resolution
  • Little support for Symbian apps

Had this phone for a few month. The camera is very nice. On the other hand day to day use is very frustrating. Not as intuitive as touch screen phones. Seems to drop and miss calls. (tried it with multiple carriers). A frustrating feature is that when you have a few applications open (calendar, contacts etc..) and you try to call or do something the phone doesn't complete the task because it runs out of memory. The build quality is OK but nothing spectacular.

Build quality 8/10
Reception 8/10
Call quality 8/10
Internet 6/10
Multimedia 6/10
Camera 9/10
UI speed 5/10
Everyday usage 5/10
Text input 6/10
Display 7/10
Battery 8/10

  • Camera is very nice

  • Runs out of memory
  • Setup is confusing

Best non touch-screen out there!!!

Prad5 has owned it for less than month before publishing this review

My requirements were that a phone have a good camera ,user friendly, future ready, look like a quality phone, mostly a Nokia & not a touch screen.I have the white edition & it gets looks. The white slide-in cover does catch the colour of my jeans wen its in my pocket but i really love the cam & battery life, its ram & processor r way ahead of the other phones for its price, ter is no phone from Nokia offering a good cam without a touch screen,if your a clumsy person then this phone is not for you cos it cannot take a beating especially the screen will crack or the cam will falter.I did lot of comparisons before picking it up.Its a great phone.

Build quality 10/10 Classy looks on white edition
Reception 10/10
Call quality 9/10 Speaker phone not good as the other phones
Internet 10/10 Wifi & good data speeds
Multimedia 9/10
Camera 10/10 5 mp HQ optics
UI speed 10/10
Everyday usage 10/10 Great battery back up
Text input 10/10 Much better than the other qwertys
Display 10/10
Battery 10/10 1500 mAh is top notch

  • 5 MP camera best out there on a non touch screen
  • Shortcut torch key helps in emergency's
  • White edition has good appeal {personal opinion}
  • Notification light lets you know about miss calls or messages

  • Speaker phone not good as others
  • Damage can be heavy if you drop it
  • Not many themes for personalisation
