Far better than you realize.

kreemer has owned it for more than one year before publishing this review

When I bought this phone, I bought it for its looks. It's a sleek, wonderful looking phone especially in black. It's very slim, it's double glass front and back design makes it look like a slab of obsidian rock, and it's perfectly weighted. Turn it on and the screen explodes with life, no kidding. The colours are natural yet vibrant, the Black's are deep enough and the brightness is no problem at all, many times brighter than the best phones out there. It has excellent wow factor, but more than that, it is an exceptionally competent phone. Huawei has worked on it, and worked on it, and in its current iteration with emui3.0 competing with lollipop, a very Sauve and Serious gentleman. It goes through all its motions cleanly, without a fuss, and make you feel very special swishing through its screens as you do so. Nothing will quite make you feel like this phone. A very rare experience indeed.

Build quality 10/10 It is very solidly built, not a squeak anywhere, the back glass glass panel gleams like a jewel whilst the front is an opaque block until lit from behind like a very expensive vehicle. The buttons and trays are built of the same aluminum metal that frames the entire phone. There is no access to the battery however, and this possibly contributes to the 'wholeness' of construction.
Reception 10/10 I have never had an issue with dropped calls WiFi connections, and the calls are clean and crisp.
Call quality 10/10 Excellent. Clean voices, no crackling, no hissing even across multiple networks calling long distance.
Internet 8/10 Internet speeds are very good though not outstanding and there are little stutters at times scrolling through web pages.
Multimedia 8/10 Video quality is very high indeed, it's a real feast for the eyes. Sound is not as good, a little lower than what you'd like, but also very high GH quality. Get good headphones.
Camera 9/10 It's the best camera I've used on a phone so far except for the one on the Galaxy S4. The panoramic selfie however, cannot be reproduced on ANY phone, very excellent indeed.
UI speed 8/10 It's more than competent here but suffered in the beginning from software/hardware mismatch. It's Huawei's own chip though so the R&D has been excellent and timely and the phone now runs as smoothly as any other high end device. The only thing is that Huawei itself has developed higher end chips that they are introducing in the newer line of phone such as the Ascend Mate 7. You can tell that they were very proud of their 'flagship' P7 and continue to look after its owners.
Everyday usage 8/10 This was a difficult one to score. Once you have the P7 in your hand, you just don't want to let it go. You will eat with it, sleep with it, hold it like an extension of your hand... And you will run into battery life problems. Carry your charger period. It's gotten a lot better - but you will need to have your charger with you.
Text input 9/10 That cool, smooth glass. You'll never get tired of swiping across this gorgeously conducted screen. And as a bonus... Huawei P7 uses Swype as it's default partner. Beware. You WILL Swype just for the same of swiping. And you WILL grin.
Display 10/10 Undeniably the best display at the time of release and still now, very, very difficult to beat. I am carrrying the Note 4 alongside it now, and still, my hands down preference is the gorgeous, GORGEOUS screen on the P7. Every so often a phone is superlative in one aspect. The screen is P7s superlative.
Battery 6/10 This is the only low point of the phone. Carry a charger, you won't last a day without it. If you root it and utilize the numerous very good apps on the store you can make it from 8am to 5pm on a single overnight charge.

  • Screen, screen, screen, timeless elegance - it exudes class - expandable memory, competent speed, NFC, the marvelous Huawei Emui3.0 interface, rarity factor, excellent call quality, very high double-glass-and-aluminum build, very smooth glass

  • Battery, some stutter in web scrolling, don't drop the phone!
