Its not a flashy handset but Sanyo is not known for that. What they produce is a solid unit with great reception and features.
The MP3 Player is oustanding with excellent sound for a phone. Add a 1G card and now you won't need to carry that IPOD around. The QVGA screen is beautiful. If your a Ready Link junky this phone has it.
I own both the 5600 and 9000. If you take the EVDO and camera away from the 9000 what you have now is a 5600. All in all this phone can still compete with the new phones being released today.
This is the perfect phone. Ever since I bought the Sanyo 5000, I've only bought Sanyo phones. Sanyo comes out with the greatest phones I've ever seen, and they usually come out with the newest technology first.
Before I bought this phone, I had the Sanyo 5300, which was the first camera phone in the United States. This proved to be a great phone. I didn't want to upgrade to a newer phone until the perfect phone came out.
That phone was the Sanyo 5600. For starters, this is the best-looking phone I've ever seen before. When I used to think about what the best phone would look like, I kind of imagined it to look like this one. I love the fact that they actually put the camera on the front faceplate above the screen.
The camera quality is awesome, and with a 128MB Mini-SD card, I can take hundreds of pictures on the highest resolution setting. I hardly ever use the camcorder, but I have it set to 90-minute mode. The only thing I don't like about the camera is the flash. It's only useful as a flashlight. I never take pictures in the dark. The fact that the phone came with the USB cable in the box is another great thing, but unfortunately Sanyo got rid of the #777 Vision-tethering trick (which doesn't bother me that much). Vision was never intended to take the place of high-speed internet anyway (well, at least before EV-DO was released).
The MP3 player is awesome, except for the fact that you can't make MP3's your ringtones. I've compared my phone to many others, and the speaker is louder than any other I've heard, even with the leather case slightly muffling the speaker. I really love the fact that the phone pauses the music for a phone call, then resumes when you hang up. Also, the stereo headset that it comes with sounds awesome, and has the turbo-button.
As far as the memory card goes, I love the fact that it's Mini-SD, and not that stupid TransFlash. It's great that it comes with the Mini-SD to SD adapter, but it would've been nice if they included a bigger memory card, instead of the tiny 16MB.
And finally, about the battery. At first, I was really surprised that it actually surpassed the specifications on the box. I've had this phone for 2 months now, and my battery is almost always dead by the end of the day. Mostly this is due to the fact that I work in a mall, but I've read a lot of complaints about the battery anyway. I can't see myself purchasing the extended battery, because I don't use that many minutes per month.
Overall, I love this phone, and I keep it protected with the leather case all the time. It has absolutely no scratches or fingerprints on it at all, and I completely clean it with a digital camera cleaning kit about once a month. I personally think this is the best phone ever made (so far). I even think it's better than the new 9000, because of the fact that the 5600 is Tri-Mode, and the 9000 is only Dual-Mode, plus the fact that the 5600 has been released since February, and hasn't had any firmware updates. The 9000's firmware was updated due to programming errors within the first couple weeks.
Well, that's about all I have to say about this phone. I can definitely see myself keeping this phone for 2 years or more. Even though this phone is discontinued, you would be making a very wise choice to get yourself one (instead of the 9000), because this phone works better than any other phone out there.

I love this phone! The most negative thing I could say is that the camera isn't as good as I thought it would be for a 1.3 megapixel, but it is satisfactory. the zoom and flash SUCKS! All things considered, this is just an awesome phone!!
I like it. Plays MP3's through its loud speaker and with headphones audio quality is as good as any MP3 player I've heard. Live TV is neat and actually works good, but unless you frequently end up sitting somewhere bored for long periods of time it's probably not that good. The screen is very clear and the pictures are on par with other camera phones (not as good as a digital camera). I like the fact you can record 90-minute movies with a large miniSD card though I haven't recorded one that long yet (though having more than 30-seconds is nice). Plus, you can then download all the images to your PC from your miniSD card. My last phone LG6000 you had to email them to yourself to get them on your PC.
ohh and the plus, that Vision internet is WAY better than the Verizon internet. I can actually read emails on the phone.
