It IS iDEN

Phone owned for more than a year

I needed an iDEN to replace my iDEN Blackberry.
This was the Free Phone offered.
It doesn't suck... for a Motorola... though I've never especially liked their phone usability. (Give me a Nokia any day....)

To the people with battery and reception problems:
You are probably in a location that does not have good iDEN coverage. iDEN coverage has been getting smaller and smaller for quite a few years now... I'm surprised it's still not gone away completely... It was a Nextel only service... and w/ Nextel now part of Sprint you'll not see this developed.

The new cell technologies are displacing iDEN. iDEN does have better sound-quality in its protocols. But it takes more band-width... this means less calls on the same signal. It's all about how many calls can be put on the carrier... the more -- the more profitable.

If you need iDEN functionality then this is not a BAD phone.

When you have low iDEN signal strength the phone is going to go into High-Power mode.... there goes your battery life. So these two problems are one-in-the-same.

I am familiar with and experience both... so I know.

its pretty bad.

Phone owned for

This is the first and only cell phone I've had, and I plan to get a new one soon. I hated every moment with this phone. It was miserable.

The battery would last 3 days. The charger thing on the bottom would never stay in. Buttons didn't work either.

The phone style was too thick, and it made me look like i was a guy [which im not] when i had it in my pocket.

But I must give props to Motorola for building such a durable phone. It has been in water and it still lives.

poor battery life, cheesy overall

Phone owned for

I was very dissappointed in the battery life. It will die with-in 48 hours with NO calls and 24 with one short call. My previous phone would last a week.

The buttons and menus are not user intitive.

You can respond to calls without unlocking the keypad as well as few other items which makes it hard to deterimine if it is locked or not.

If you do not answer a call and it goes to voice mail- you recieve TWO notifications (either vibe or ring) that you have a message - this is redundant.

The display only stays illuminated for a limited time. If you push a button to see the time - the unlock keypad notice comes up obscuring the time. When used outside in daylight the display is not bright enough.

I have had this phone for about 4 months, so this is not "newness" speaking.
