Sony Xperia XZ2 Review

The XZ2 isn't just about looks. It's also a multimedia powerhouse equipped with powerful up-to-date hardware. But ultimately, is the Sony Xperia XZ2 as great of a phone as it seems on paper?

I think it deserves a 9. Only con I see is no headphone jack. It has all of the bells and whistles you would want in a flagship phone. This would be my next phone if it worked on Sprint.

No it doesn't. 8 is a very good score for this phone. The bazels are still plenty despite being super fat and new aspect ratio display. Camera is still not in top 4. Fingerprint location is stupid. Look how big it looks compared to s9. When I first saw the render I thought the phone looks good but the real world xz2 looks much less appealing compared to s9. Only battery life is it's saving point. They need to up their design again. At least 83 percent STB ratio is required in 2018 flagship phones. They need to put bigger battery if their phone reminds fat in order to gain legendary battery life. Also they need a camera or cameras to challenge at least s9.

How does one get over 80% StB ratio with front facing speakers?!

Considering PhoneArena gave the iPhone 8 a score of 9, and it doesn't do half of what the this Xperia XZ2 can do or offer. Plus they are similar in terms of pricing Xperia XZ2 is 80 more. In some areas you will get a PS4 included in the purchase of an Xperia XZ2. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7" HD low resolution (non HDR) display with bezels to fill tomorrow, and no headphone jack. This Xperia XZ2 has a 5.7" HDR full HD display, which is a new type of LCD display called MLCD. Plus it has better water proofing, and expandable storage. USB-C (3.1), and a new PS4 features for play games. Not to mention it's battery life is longer than an iPhone 8 or X.

The more worse than the biased review is Samsung fans giving their agreements with the review.

The Fingerprint scanner position is still better than the GS8. A case would help too.

Depending on hand size, could be just as bad or even worse.

Galaxy S9 has an stupid design, you can't even put a screen protector!! I hate those rounded edges! I prefer flat screens!

Same with XZ lines unfortunately.. All we can do is to install plastic screen protector as usual. Dealing with glass will have it not covered fully.

Well... As usual for a Sony phone, the review omits and doesn't take into account important advantages of the phone; if people knew what Digital Noise Cancellation on Sony flagships does, they'd consider it a serious game changer (it basically blocks ambient noise when you listen to music with earphones, which would be so important to so many people... if people knew). Also the fact that this phone will most likely receive next Android version about six months earlier than the Samsung S9. And attery care which keeps battery life healthier for longer. And suddenly the small advantage of Samsung in imaging quality looks a lot smaller.

The S9 is better in every way except for battery & if you prefer LCD & Boxy designs. Less than a 10% battery size increase but it's much bigger in every size metric despite having a small screen?

How is the XZ2 display and camera better than the S9? Lol. It's a great phone but not as good the S9. And thr removal of headphone jack makes little sense for a phone this thick.

Ips xz2 is a ips 10 bits hdr rec 2020 and s8 is a crapmoled penline 8 bits poor in subpixels . Camera xz2 wln in photos, video and stabilitation. 4k hdr > 4k Sdr

Take a look at gsmarena review. S9 has more accurate colors when you choose different than default adaptive mode.

The Galaxy S9 is the most accurate display on the market, as proven by Displaymate. The only reason the measurements in Phonearena's reviews always look bad is because they're using the default settings of Adaptive mode, which is intentionally inaccurate, as that is more pleasing to look at for the average consumer. If you want accuracy, you simply switch the Galaxy S9 screen mode to Basic, Photography or the 3rd one which i can't remember. They're all tuned for specific color standards, and all of them are more accurate than the display of the Sony XZ2 or any other display on the market. If you don't believe me, then take a look at the Displaymate test. Here it is:

8 is more than it deserves. Very thick and heavy yet small battery, front facing camera is a downgrade, and it has an lcd 1080p display

A multimedia powerhouse without a headphone jack? I'm sorry, but that's not how it works.

headphone jack is very convenient. But for users can bear with Apple they can bear with Sony. LOL
