Why 7.5? It should've been 6.5!

Why is that? Because you said so? Seems like a decent phone that ticks a lot of boxes for people.

Have you look at the back of the unit? I have no complains when it comes to the screen nor the processor. But there are problems like: 1. Location of the fingerprint sensor. 2. The Humpback design of the unit. 3. Storage capacity. 4. Speaker design. 5. Not even supporting Android ARCore and 6. Battery capacity.

Actually, I was wondering why the score wasn’t at least around an 8.5. The larger XZ2, which shares a lot of hardware with this device, has more cons than this review had and yet this received a lower score. It doesn’t exactly make sense. I mean one con is noted and yet it scores a 7.5? I could understand if they came up with more cons but I don’t think being a little on the thick side deserves the device being dinged down that low.

So true. The review is a joke! The thickest point on the XZ2 Compact is only 65% thicker than the iPhone 8. How come it's "twice" as thick? The edge of the XZ2 Compact which touches the hand is only 7mm which is thinner than the iPhone. Let alone the XZ2 Compact packs a battery almost "twice" as big as iPhone 8?

Now this is what the PA says, "About as compact as an iPhone 8, but much thicker and heavier" iPhone with the same body has 4.7" screen and here we're talking about 5" one. I don't know how did they do the comparison.

Looks like you don't know what you are talking about. It's not "a little on the thick side". The truth is that It's ugly thick and it looks cheap. I'm absolutely sure this is what reviewer thought but didn't want to trash device and was very politically correct saying that device is very chubby. Moreover - materials used and overall design makes it looking like Lumia 525. No 3.5 mm could be forgivable for Apple but no excuse for Sony. XZ2 at least has some premium look and feel and this the reason of higher score. This is just an ugly piece of junk and I'm sure that no one defending it here in comments will ever buy it for his personal use (including yourself by the way)... If you think different - just go to store and check it in real life...

"Looks like you don't know what you are talking about" Oh, the irony. First you compare this to the all-plastic Lumia 525 with a cheap glass screen when this device has a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 5 for the screen. Then, you somehow think that a device that shares 90% of it's hardware with it's larger sibling and costs $200 less should somehow still use all of the same materials as the larger sibling. The only "cheap" part of this device is the polycarbonate back. Which, to many people, would be good considering devices that have the glass back have not done well during drops.

Best compact phone in the market.

Already the review of the XZ2 was slightly unfair, but here the negative tone of the review is simply over the top. Features that the phone packs and are not even mentioned: - Digital Noise Cancellation for listening clearly to music outdoors (pretty much exactly when you use a phone and headphones to listen to music). I have been enjoying this feature since the 2014 Z2 and it is a big game changer, no matter if people and reviewers alike don't even know its existence. -"Pixel level" of software support, probably around 4-6 months faster updates than Samsung flagships -Battery Care which reduces time of battery charging when fully charged, which keeps battery in good condition for longer Also the comment that the phone "feels" less fast than the competition, because of "slow" animations and transitions, despite the great speed results is highly subjective. Also highly subjective the comment that the screen is not up to par, despite great measurements and good white balance. Clean, nearly stock Android, which, unlike the Galaxys, respects Google Material Design and doesn't end up with a mismatch of interface designs in one device is another plus. Good price is another one.

Definitely an annoying negative tone for whatever reason in this article. Also, about the "slow" animations the author mentions: Sony uses stock Android animations on all its flagships, but speeding them up a notch. As a matter of fact when I get an Xperia phone I always go in the dev options to slow them down a bit to have them like stock Android. So there's that. BTW PA, some people prefer Android and therefore don't give a crap about the iPhone 8 (which anyway is bigger than the XZ2C with a 4.7" screen, just saying).

I've been here for quite some time now, and I noticed that PhoneArena has a lot of hate for sony phones. The mere fact that it's more snappy than iPhone X in speed test comparison is a clear lie. Try to look for speed test comparison in YouTube and you'll see what I am saying. Even the old model is more snappy than the latest iPhone even faster than other Android flagship

XZ2c x iphone 8 - XZ2c has hdr screen, i8 does not. - XZ2c screen upscale sdr to hdr, i8 does not - XZ2c has 4K hdr and can get 60fps with updates in future if Sony wants, i8 does not record hdr. - XZ2c will last the double or more than i8 ( SoT ) - Higher ingress protection - Better speakers - XZ2c has software bokeh, i8 does not even this - Xz2c has fast charge, i8 does not - XZ2c records stereo, i8 does not - XZ2c has 960fps 1080p, i8 does not - XZ2c has higher brightness, more contrast than i8. Also 1080p resolution. BTW, this G lens is 25mm not 24. Imx300 is used behind 24mm G Lens. Score : 7.5 x 9.2

The author can't even be bothered to check the spec of the camera. The review really put the credibility of PhoneArena in doubt.

I think the reason is simple. Sony is not generous like Apple.

haha, and "just slightly smaller than the LG G6" was kinda laughable as well. There's a size comparison tool on your website guys, just give it a try once in a while.

Extremely underrated, it has only one con and it gets 7.5!

The thicker body is not a con. Over-focus on thinness is the worst thing that has happened to cell phones in years, if not decades.

I'm surprised that the XZ1 Compact was not offered as an alternative. Anyway, I have been waiting for this review from PhoneArena and it was worth the wait. I appreciate the photo comparing the height of the iPhone 8 to the XZ2C. I do have to give Sony props for keeping the width between the XZ1C and the XZ2C the same. Width matters more than people think it does. Even so, this confirms that this is NOT the phone for me. I miss having a slightly more pocketable phone but not at the expense of the camera. It seems to be still not there yet.

What the heck is wrong with these sites?! If you want to keep overrating Apple and Samsung its okay i understand business but don't degrade other companies efforts, stop reviewing non Apple/Samsung smartphone for the sake of humanity.

Some sites gave almost 9 to OP5 even when it lacks a lot we found on other flagships.

I'm really surprised! The dimensions are quite far from those of the G6 to begin. And why always comparing a phone with dual front facing speakers with others that don't have it? Just compare it to the Pixel 2 XL which has those dual front facing speakers and you'll see that it's not that bad as you may suggest (76.4% screen to body ratio for the Pixel 2 XL and 73.5% for the XZ2 Compact). I'm also wondering if you didn't receive a defective unit, as transitions are generally really fast on Sony phones, that's the way they are made. The same goes for the camera app, I've never had any bug or slowdowns. And you are saying that the images are plenty of noise. I've seen pictures taken from the Galaxy S9, and the amount of detail is just not there compared to these XZ2. It may have noisier images than the others, but that's the balance between noise and details that Sony decided to go for, that's a matter of taste! The slow charging is due to the Qnovo Adaptative Charging (nothing new) that promote battery longevity over fast charging. You can clearly see that when the phone charges as fast as the others for low battery percentages and slows down as battery charge increases (to the point of being quite slow when reaching 90%). Finally, the thickness is not at 12.1

This phone is worth at least 8 o 8.5! what a bad review!! is thicker in the center, in the edges is about 7 mm. Also it's cheaper than iPhone 8, Galaxy S9, etc...

What's the point of compact when it's even heavier than phone with bigger screen.

In what world is 5.93oz more than 6.98oz?
