Screen comparison: iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S5 vs G3 vs One (M8) vs iPhone 5s

Whenever a new major flagship smartphone comes out, we tend to stage an in-depth screen comparison in order to determine if the manufacturer has managed to leapfrog the stiff competition in this all so important aspect. Of course, the just-released Apple iPhone 6 is major enough to justify a new screen comparison, especially since Apple prides itself in producing some of the very best displays in the industry...

this a joke of an article. the most i paid site. seriously, it's getting tiring. s5 has the best display out there and that's a statement by people much more experienced and suited for the job than you. but of course there was a need of a random article to show the superiority of iphones. you are losing readers, i hope you can see that.

The iPhone 5s and 6 screens are not even close to the One M8. The funny thing is colour accuracy and brightness apparently carries a lot more weight than resolution to achieve those scores. Which is a joke. It doesn't matter how colour accurate a 720p screen is or how bright, I am getting either a 1080p or 4k TV because they just flat out look way better. I know iphone arena will argue that it's different with mobile phones but I disagree. 1080p resolution phones look way better too. Which makes this article pretty laughable. I mean, at least try and be a less obvious tool.

So resolution is everything? Even on a relatively tiny screen where differences are minute? Colour accuracy, contrast and all those things don't matter? The Pioneer Kuro screens are still regarded as pretty much the best ever, yet most of those were 720p, OMG how did people cope? Were they blind? Face it, if Apple brought out an iPhone with a 8xHD screen you'd say it was crap and a gimmick, there'd be another reason a different phone would be better. You're just a fanboy who'll find any excuse to bash the brand you dislike and praise the one you do.

I would have to agree that the S5 finishes dead last. I would have to put the LG G3 up there with the top 3.

That's because we skewed the test deliberately. If we used up-to-date testing software the S5 screen would top the list and the overall score. Obviously we would never do that, as it would negate our mantra.

lol PA. according to cnet (apple fansite) That said, we think the Samsung has the superior display for most viewing situations and content. Apps and websites increasingly favor colorful images over black-and-white text, and in many images the screen of the S5 actually looked brighter than that of the iPhones thanks to its pop and contrast. The S5 also lost very little in high ambient light and outside. In everyday use, distinguishing between the IPS Retina displays of the iPhones and the Galaxy S5's Super AMOLED is tough unless you have the phones next to each other. The iPhones have excellent displays with great color and a lot of brightness, but because they're not OLED they simply won't pop in most lighting situations with the same vivid contrast Samsung's display has As usual each screen has particular strengths and weaknesses, but to our minds the Samsung Galaxy S5 has the best screen

WAIT A MINUTE... WHAT DID YOU DO TO SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 ? It shouldn't be that yellow...? What is the display mode ? I hope its not Cinema mode... Plus, you should turn off the 'Auto adjust screen tone' as well. Put screen mode to Standard or Dynamic as well !

Why Galaxy S5's PenTile with smaller subpixels has scored 9.5?

These pictures with the green cast from the S5 are either outright fake or they have a damaged S5 unit. I'm betting it's the former.

What's wrong Mr. "Techie" you can't analyze objectively? Or do you only fawn over positive sApple reception.

They're post processed images. They're 'supposed' to represent the display colours but are more of an exaggeration rather than anything else.

Displays of current flagship phones are amazing to look at. Heck even my 2013 phone wich is a Xiaomi mi3 has a really good display. Arguing about which is better is pointless now.

There are four display modes on galaxy s5 Why do PA use the worst one to compare the screen?

So just because I spoke the truth I get a warning and my comment gets deleted? I strand by what I said. You guys are biased and it shows. Change the name to i-PhoneArena! You guys should be ashamed. Free speech is a right. IfnInhit a nerve with my comment be a man and reply. Don't delete and semd a warning. This is not a dictatorship. Grow Up PA!

If you don't like it, go to another site, and it is a dictatorship. PA dictates the ship.

+1. Another person confusing his constitutional rights with the rights he has on a website. Smh.

74. g2a5b0e unregistered

Free speech is a right. Correct. But, it's not one that applies here. When you sign up to use this website, you agree to the terms & services. They state that there are certain you can & cannot say. This is a dictatorship. If you don't like it, I'm sure there are other websites that would be more to your liking.

So basically nothing can be said against Apple but agaimsy Samsung is ok? Wow so much for logic. You guys are an embarrassment. Let's see how you feel when you say something against Samsung and they send you a warning. True it is a website and not something else but still opinion matters even if it is something that was true and ironic to them. Truth hurts ;)

78. g2a5b0e unregistered

Check out the phones I own & have owned, then check to see if YOUR logic holds up. You assume that I'm an Apple lover because I don't bash them needlessly like most Android lovers feel the need to do. It's called being unbiased. This is a dictatorship. Plain & simple. Deal with it.

Hey I didn't bash Apple either. I merely talked about how S5 was the best screen back then compared to HTC One (M8) and LG G3 and now suddenly that iPhone 6 is out it becomes the worst even compared to the old ones. That was my issue. Even display mate called S5 the best back then Look, if I'm lying prove it but I'm not. PA did say they love S5 screen but now it's terrible??? This is my issue. That's all...and just for speaking the truth they warn me. My comment actually had supporters even from those who hated Samsung! So what's going on? Can't they handle the turth or do they wanna bury it

I'm pretty sure the color accuracy category is biased. I have taken photos with the S5 on a beach and it's far better than this photo being represented.

There's no doubt the iPhone 6 has a great screen, but it does seem borderline dishonest to put color accuracy as one of three tests and then clearly not use the mode Samsung provides for THOSE WHO VALUE IT. Even if it doesn't make much difference (I disagree on that), it makes some difference, so why not use Basic mode? It's one thing if it's a complex method, but Samsung provides a FEATURE that no one else does to change screen calibration based on USER PREFERENCE. Some prefer over saturation, some prefer more accurate colors. You're penalizing an OEM for having a feature no one else provides.

+1 Totally agree. And not only that, isn't this comparison supposed to be comparing how good manufacturers calibrate their displays? Samsung's work on their display calibrations are one of the best, if not the best.
