All iPhones and Galaxy S phones have had wonderful cameras, and that remains true for their latest editions, the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4. However, there are some fundamental differences in terms of the camera experience. The Galaxy S4, being a Samsung device, features all kinds of settings, shooting modes, effects and so on for you to play with. The iPhone 5, on the other hand, has a super-simple approach to imaging. Beyond the option to press the camera shutter, it offers you just three other settings – HDR, Grid, and Flash.

Regardless of the complexity of their user interfaces, both devices take wonderful images. Thanks to their higher, 13MP resolution, the shots from the Galaxy S4 pack some additional detail that isn't visible in the images of the iPhone 5. Furthermore, the Galaxy S4's photos tend to be more realistic in terms of colors. Apple's device usually tends to saturate things a bit too much. Photos from its 8MP camera often look cool, but not very natural. Exposure is better with the iPhone 5, as the Galaxy S4 overexposes some areas from time to time.

Indoor shots come out pretty good with both phones, though the Galaxy S4 has an advantage thanks to its bigger resolution, and slightly better LED flash, which allows it to take better photos in dimly-lit environments.

It's very hard to pick a better camera-phone when it comes to 1080p video recording. While the Galaxy S4 camera captures slightly sharper footage, which we like, that comes at the expense of having more noise, which we don't like, but overall, the difference isn't too noticeable. Sound recorded through the GS4's microphone sounds better, as it's louder and clearer, whereas the one from the iPhone 5 sounds quieter and a bit muffled.

Taking a pic Lower is better Taking an HDR pic (sec) Lower is better CamSpeed score Higher is better CamSpeed score with flash Higher is better
Samsung Galaxy S4 3.4
Apple iPhone 5 2.7

If you plan to use your smartphone for multimedia-centric tasks, such as video playback and games, the Galaxy S4 is undoubtedly the better choice due to its larger, 5” display. Not that you won't like watching video on the brilliant iPhone 5 screen, but the experience will be much more enjoyable and comfortable with the GS4.

The author of this piece is CLEARLY a Apple 'fanboy'. Just look at a few of these quotes: - "(The iPhone 5) has that aura of something expensive and sophisticated." "Meanwhile, the Galaxy S4 is the exact opposite." - "Well, of course, the iPhone 5 is the more practical phone." What basis is there for saying this? NONE! - "Both screens are simply gorgeous, but the iPhone 5 is really something special in this department." "but (the S4) can't quite match the true-to-life image of the iPhone 5." - Again. There is NO basis for sayign this! The S4 has more pixels and a higher resoltuion than the iPhone 5. This is VERY clear. - I hate product comparison reviews that are clearly written by fanboys.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is faster and more powerful than the iPhone 5 in every way. The iphone 5 has a small screen than Samsung Galaxy S4. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a bigger screen and camera is far better quality than the iPhone 5. The Galaxy S4 has more battery backup as compared to iphone 5. I love to use Samsung Galaxy S4 with wider screen.

Honestly if you are going call something the better phone I really think the better phone should have the best call quality, camera, networking, best techno qualities that is a real definition of the best phone which I think is what apple is protracting because sometimes it not about how big the phone is or the look of the phone its about getting a phone that is 1 worth your money and 2 worth your time 3 worth using at its best ability . I think thats why Apple has been successful for many years because they care more about what is best for you using not best to look good with. I have used both phones and I will say GS4 is really good for show but the calling quality is terrible and camera is terrible and its catches viruses very easy now and I think samsung should have focus more on the use quality and not the look quality I'm not sorry to say but the Iphone 5 is better :)

"It all comes down to what type of user you are. Are you a geek or a tech-savvy person who demands a large screen and extreme control over their computing devices? Grab the Galaxy S4 and don't look back! Are you a user who's into technology, but values exquisite design, simplicity and fine-tuned experiences? Get an iPhone – it's still unbeatable in those areas." Re-edited: "It all comes down to what type of user you are: Are you a geek or a tech-savvy person who demands a large screen and extreme control over their computing devices in addition to being a techno, but values exquisite design, simplicity and fine-tuned experiences? Seriously?! Galaxy S4 is so, but so better, that sounds like a joke. Who, now a days, buy iPhone? Ah, I forgot, Americans still does.

Obviously most of those commenting are those that use there phones for almost anything but calls, that is why there is so much hype over the S4. The iPhone 5 is a SUPERIOR phone hands down. It doesn't freeze up like the Android phones, and has much better call quality and Apple is still the one with technology that all the others chase

No effin way the IPhone 5 is competition for the S4. At least wait till they make an IPhone 5s to make a comparison. And there hardware would not be possible without Sammy providing the internal components. I can't speak for most Android phones but I would say Samsung provides a smooth UI experience with Touchwiz. Have a GN2 and I wouldn't trade it for anything unless it's for a GN3.

Off Course S4 wins........ And about plastic vs metal....dude both of us will use don't be ' i ' baby... Unless you not worried about scratch... And cost of replacing, repairing is way cheaper than Iphone... Dont forget about I tunes,,,,worst on earth.....even cheap non branded mp3 players can easily transfer the data from pc to phone,.. even Iphone gets more hotter in its use, which no body mentioned thr.. you guys lack customization in your life and prefer to use same older way of functionality.. why you call Iphone simple to use? are you all lack of brain enough to use a phone.. be creative, be advanced....try to adjust with few years you will see big creativity from samsung. This is your don.t wanna live in ancient age of apple..

I agree with some comments here that there should not be a comparison between the two as S4 is far, far better than iP5. I am a current user of S3 which I've changed after using iP3G then iP4S then iP5. I admit that I WAS just like the rest of iPhone lovers, loved all of my iPhone models.. but not until the day i switched my iP5 to S3. Ever since I tried S3, i realized how dark our (iPhone lovers) world is. We tend to stick to the "self-made high heritage" of iPhones just because of the sense of pride.. not at all because of performance or whatsoever. In fact until now I still can't say how that pride came to us the iPhone lovers.. it's just the pride that we feel once we buy it. We can't accept the fact for any better phone in the market, we fought till the end to say how good iPhone is WITHOUT trying other brand names with Android in particular. We are just like Man Utd fans when talking with Liverpool fans. There will be no ending story. Coming back to my experience, I started with iP3G in October 2008 and changed my iP5 to S3 recently in January 2013. So I was with iPhones for nearly 5 years. As of now, I can say in terms of my personal experience, S3 is a clear winner in terms of user experience if we put side to side with iP5. Ever since I tried Android 3 months ago, I can tell everybody here that I will never go back to IOS. I never regret the years that I have "wasted" with iPhones but the fact is that I am happy that I have tried it and now I am smiling wide reading all the comments here.

I would love for PA to explain to me with a logical argument how Android is tougher than iOS. I'm tired of hearing that Android is more complicated cause it isn't. Can Android be more complex? Hell yeah. But guess what, I want to make a phone call? Press phone, Contacts? Press contacts or people. Some Android devices are more complicated (looking at you HTC) but in general Android is just as simple or simpler than an iphone. Want to quickly toggle off your WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.? Almost every Android has a widget to handle that. For iPhone you have to go to settings and it's more complicated for GPS as well. Again the difference between an iPhone and an Android has nothing to do with simple or intuitive. It has to do with whether you want to be limited in what you do or not. Do you want to view your current weather from your lock screen? iPhone can't do that. Heck iPhone is even stealing ideas from Android that are infinitely better (like the addition of the pull down screen) Won't be surprised if iOS8 has lockscreen widgets after they prove to be a success for Android. That said, this article isn't swaying anyone's opinion, if you love Android or Sammy you'll pick them, if you love Apple you pick them. Super straight forward. Android devices are almost always superior in terms of features or cost, and every carrier would rather sell Android devices than iOS cause they're more profittable, but face it people who want iPhones get iPhones. That's it can't change their mind ever.

I definitely think Ray has hit the nail on the head in his conclusion about the different types of users and what device they're most likely to go for.

I'm curious, what apps does IOS has that Android doesn't have nowadays? Take into account that most dev companies develop for both, the average person only uses so many apps and the majority of apps that are made aren't worth downloading. I think the app count comparison is dead.

Im getting so tires of these comparison comments because se people who comment obviously are not in the phone industry or just blinded by there own personal judgement about an iphone but anyways. I work for at&t and jave been for a very long time I actually physically played with a samsung galaxy s4 I use a note 2 as my daily driver. For the iphone fans stop really just stop. I have seen every iphone come out I been there I have played with them I know the specs and honestly an iphone is a hype device most people dont even know why they buy an iphone they just do. Great marketing on apples part. I all ways sit and wonder why close minded people buy the same device literrally over and over and over. I fans says well it just works its all ways smooth the display. Is retina so what. There is no real innovation behind an iphone its just screens with apps that is all no amazing features then you say well what about siri its voice control with a name lol. Look add true multi tasking functionality to it like an android pho number e add widgets to it more features more internal programs guess what I bet you it will lag and freeze. As far as the screen stretch it out to more than 4 inch on there same technology you will not have a retina display lol simply put ifans the phone is dated the software is dated and really cant be compared. Android devices havent lagged or freezed since ice cream sandwhich and some before that. I actually get more problems with iphones everyday than androids. Now back on the s4 when I played with it it is clearly a much better clear picture the features of the software that you could have never thought would be put in a phone is not only innovative but there non gimmicky and acctually work. The s4 far far far far far surpasses the iphone 5 on a consumer and technical stand point and if you really really dont see that then go get your eyes check because until you have actually played with a device you really have nothing to commit on
