Samsung Galaxy S III Review (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint)

0. phoneArena posted on 19 Jun 2012, 23:01

As we’ve seen last year with the Samsung Galaxy S II, it made its way to the US market many months after its initial unveiling – and to top it off, each specific carrier version was different in their own way. So yeah, call it confusion to the max or something else entirely. Thankfully, Samsung’s approach this year with its highly anticipated successor, the uniformly named Samsung Galaxy S III, is more rampant and timely with minimal wait...

blah to LTE.

Ill take the same speeds with HSPA+ but with way better battery life. I rather like 1.5-2 days of battery. you guys take the "hip" tech.

The differences in the scores between the international and the US version is going to more than likely be from the much weaker Adreno 225 GPU in the S4 compared to the O/C mali400 in the international. I was hoping the doubled ram would make up some of the difference.. guess not.

hmmm.. decisions decisions...

seriously, look at the reviews for the Amaze and the Galaxy S II for T-Mobile and the Bionic and Rezound for Verizon.

Bionic: OMAP4 1GHz, qHD, LTE, 1735mAh battery,
10 hours

Rezound: S3 1.5GHz, HD, LTE, 1620mAh battery, 10 hours

Galaxy S II: S3 1.5GHz, WVGA, 42mbps, 1850mAh battery, 11 hours

Amaze: S3 1.5GHz, qHD, 42mbps, 1730mAh battery, 6.25 hours, over 2 hours less than the Sensation which has similar specs and a 1520mAh battery.

the amaze also has the up clocked S3, a higher resolution screen, and even more bloat running on it. The sensation never got 8 hrs, i can tell you that. Most people I knew ran to the charger within 4-5 hrs. lol.
those battery tests dont mean anything because they are done under "perfect " conditions. you know that. Real life is such a range its not funny. My SGS1 is probably rated for like 7 or 8 hrs, but I get 1.5+ days out of it with regular use. Its all in how its set up. HTCs get worse battery life in real word because sense likes to drain it.

the Rezound has an even higher resolution display and the same S3 beating at the same clock frequency. these are tests done by the Phone Arena team and while they may be more "scripted" if you will it shouldn't be too far off from solid projections. while i agree that you can get more from these projections if you tried different forms of battery optimization but doing so would only change the magnitude of the comparison. the same means of battery extension used on these 42mbps devices can be used on the LTE devices as well, the differences between them with forms of battery optimization can be surmised by these projections Phone Arena has given us because they're the same tests.

Kinda like saying that you'll stay with the '62 Fairlane and you guys can have the '12 M3.

is it the american note? then take it back. lol. you will get a small bump in processor and battery life with the SGS3 due to the S4 chip being about 30-40% better than the S3 chip in the note. if its the international note vs the american SGS3, keep the international note.. .only minor differences there.

The phone ought to be compatible with the MHL adapter I bought from Samsung for my Galaxy Nexus. But you're saying that it is not. Why? MHL is terrible in the first place. Why not put a decent micro HDMI jack on the side like Motorola? The included Samsung chargers won't even keep it charged while mirroring video on the TV and they are required to be plugged into the MHL adapters for the adapter to even work. Now I have to buy another piece of crap? Sweet.

I cannot warm up to this phone. Whenever Samsung tries to avoid copying Apple design, they create something generic. I was playing with the international version today and I must say, its design can be described as either generic (white) or cheesy (the cheap looking blue).
The interface also looked like trying to turn ICS to Gingerbread. I also couldn't understand why on earth the app tray launcher was just placed randomly amongst the other buttons at the bottom bar... Looked like you could customize it and bin it, but then how would you go to your apps?
Other negatives included the cheesy sound (ploink!) everytime I was moving through settings (hopefully one can remove it) and the usual -oh apple please don't sue us for not bothering to come with something original- UI design.
The only thing that impressed me was how well the display modes work. I don't like the past oversaturated screens of Samsung but this time choosing the Natural or Cinema modes eliminates the problem completely.
Generally, perfect working phone, rich specs but I'll give it a miss and buy something lighter on specs but cooler, like a Sony Xperia S or even an LG Optimus 4X HD.

You people and your benchmarks..benchmarks don't mean s**t on phones in real world usage. S4 is similar or better in some cases such as for web browsing. Pluuus, the us version is 4G unless you're on tmobile sorry guys and 2GIGS of ram which more than enough makes up for not having the quad core. Do your research and compare phones with both versions before bitching about (oh it don't have quad core)..boofreakinghoo!!!!!! If you need something to where benchmarks means that much to you, you shouldn't be using your phone for gaming or for what those benchmarks really mean anyway. Use a laptop or desktop!!!
Search for the various tests that are out there between both versions and see what really happens, but all in all the S4 is just as worthy as the quad core in most cases and better in some others.
And the not showing 2 GIG of ram is because of portion of that is for other things on the phone. My nexus has 1 GIG of ram but only always show that 675MB of it is usable because the rest is being used for other things on the phone.

I hate how when PA shows off the web browser in their reviews they only go to their site. I would like to see a more graphic intensive site be used. The Phonearena website runs smooth on my old droid eris!

i currently have the original, legendary htc evo 4g and i love the phone today as much as i did when i bought it which never happens with me..

i skipped on the evo lte to wait on the sg3 but now im not sure..i love htc sense but i just thought i couldn't pass up the quad-core processor..knowing now it doesn't have it and having never owned a samsung before, i am wondering if i should go with the evo lte???

i am with sprint and after looking over the specs, it really looks like a dead heat..i would like to try something different but also know i would absolutley love an even better version of my evo with upgraded sense and ics..plus i like the kickstand cause i use it as a table clock at night..

no trolling could someone familiar with the galaxy family tell me some of it's strongest selling points..

Can't wait for my SGSIII from Verizon, just cancel my order with Sprint, only because now Verizon offer a better plan than what Sprint would ever offer, Plus 4G LTE.

I have a GS2, the universal design of the GS3 is going to be great. Apple is able to sell cases everywhere including gas stations, cause every iphone 4 and 4s is the same. Looking for cases of the GS2 you need to know which version you have. Also on the design, the alignment of the flash, camera lens, and speaker is a great idea in my mind, cause it leaves a large space below. This space can be taken advantage of. I put my license and CC under my case in that location, but it currently covers the speaker a little. If someone would make a TPU, or leather case with credit card slots on the back. That would be awesome.

Because the exynos and 4g lte don't play well together yet is the reason why the us version is dual core and it will work juuust ;-)

I lost my iphone and jumped to Galaxy III & love it, I pre-ordered and received it 6/21/12 like promised. However I have not been able to bring my contacts from iTunes over, I tried the Easy Phone Sync app but it seems to be only for the UK not the US.
Any advise?

Nuyslady.... download the "bump" app for both phones and go to the contacts page on each and bump them together, its so easy and quick. I got my S3 yesterday and its so much better than the iphone, i love it! Once i get the hang of Android and this phone along with rooting it in the near future, it will be the best phone i can own! Everyone with an iphone needs to take a look at this beast and think about switching!
