Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Review

Wait, what? Why Note 7 and not Note 6? Easy: This year, Samsung is willing to align its S and Note lines better, so it's missing the “Note 6” and jumping straight to calling it Note 7. But, if this is going to give you peace of mind, if we count the Note Edge, then the Note 7 is actually the seventh Note in the series, so the name is indeed fitting.

Apple's flagship iPhones have always scored 9 in PA's reviews. It's a logic to question and wonder WhyTF!

Agreed, @Trey This article is nitpicky at best.

They are saving the 9+ score for the product which is going to launch next month...

I don't think they want to admit that the Note 7 isn't really that spectacular. It doesn't really do anything new and the specs just screams "So What?" Quite frankly, I think Samsung peaked with the Note 4. They haven't been able to get past it.

By that metric, no phone is spectacular. But the Note 7 does everything so much better than the Note 4 and I say that as an owner of the Note 4. The only benefit of the Note 4 is the replaceable battery. The list of improvements and additions is pretty lengthy though...

Really? So without mentioning any specific phone by name, we have watched improvements be mediocre compared to a previous model, yet were given much better score. Example, one phone that PA did a review on stated that the camera in the newer model took worse pictures than the previous, it also added no real new useful features. It used the same design as last years model. Had terrible software updates and more bad things, yet it scored above 9. Is that not biased? No matter what phone or brand you like, you should still be willing to call out bias. tech sites are suppose to "FAIRLY" review products, so that a customer who hasn't purchased the item yet and draw a fair conclusion and make an accurate buying decision. If you basically do a dishonest review out of spite or hate, then the person reading who is not a usual visitor to the site, could potentially make a bad buying decision.

The improvement in most iterations of top end phones are only marginally incremental these days with the least progress noticeable in the iPhone. I gave up on the iPhone after the iPhone 6 Plus. Not a Samsung apologist but this is leaps and bounds ahead of anything Apple has to offer.

ON THIS DAY: THE Galaxy Note 7 gets a 8.7, no longer able to keep up the 9 and up record. Galaxy note 8 with a score of 7 confirmed

iPhone 6S Plus 9.2, yet it had minor improvements over the previous model. The design was 100% identical to previous model. Every sit that did camera tests including PA, states the camera took worse pictures than the previous model. iOS9 has had a slew of issues. In fact it had MORE problems than any prior version of IOS, and had more patches to fix problems than any version of Android or Windows Phone. So you are admitting that a phone that was worse than its previous model is ok to score higher in a review, than a phone that offers much more and better improvements over the previous model and yet get a lower score? The review of the Note 7 should have NOTHING to do with the S7. The Note has never been waterproofed, so it should eb scored on its own merit, not the fact the S7 is waterproofed, because the S has had such before. Even though IP certification isn't new, it is new to this product category. Even though the Note shares the same camera as the S7, it is still an improvement over the previous Note model. USB Type-C offers faster files transfer and faster charging. The Display is also new, because it supports HDR content natively. The S7 does not. An alternative for security with another biometric sensor that is fast and accurate as the fingerprint reader. Even though expandable storage is not new to the Note line, it is still there and not on the previous model. The Note 7 has a larger battery vs the previous model. From 3000 to 3500 is a much larger jump, than the measly amount of battery the iPhone got. The SD820 is much improved over the 810. TouchWiz has what appears to be a near total makeover and looks really good. All the S-Pen improvements including doubling the pressure sensitivity. A newdesign, and its waterproofed for the first time ever in a Note. I mean I can list 15 huge improvements tis model has over the last, while the iPhone only basically had 1 improvement over the last model. I don't care what the score is, or who wins as long as it is 100% fair. Just looking at PA's list of cons, shows its not fair. That is why John V left, because he loves tech and he hated being forced to be bias for a paycheck. he Is man enough to stand up for what is right and fair. These other hypocrites are all sellouts to their core. The Note 7 at most deserves a 9 tops. It has significant improvements over the previous model.

This is ridiculous! This guy gave Apple iPhone SE a rating of 8.8. But note 7 only 8.7 ? You must be kidding me. For a phone that has improved a lot from last year with specs, design, SD card expansion, water proof, iris scanner, larger storage base capacity etc etc - it gets a lower score compared to the crappy Iphone LE ?? And the cons are as stupid as the whole review is. Thats is. I am done with Phone Arena. no more sharing of PA links. Removing it from the bookmark. Only time I will come back here is to check what ratings they would possibly give to the new iphone.

PA lost all credibility a long time ago. I mostly browse it to get a broad brush view of what's going on in the phone tech world.

Well its gonna replace the flat screen. I am sure the S8 will be curved and will only have a single model. Its a nice change. Samsung sells plenty of flat phones. I am sure they aren't going to curve all of them. The A9 is a beautiful phone and I wish it was available in the USA.

The note7 is breaking pre-orders record, so there's no meltdown happening. The only meltdown that'll be happening is with you, when you found out that the note7 is the best device of 2016. Cites the verge and everyone else.

The score is probably to low, but I did say that no phone coming out this year and perhaps next year is worth wasting your money on. Even the iPhone 7 is a pass for me.

That may be true to some degree. But here is how it should be looked at. Basically this is the Note 6...forget about it retail name for a quick second. When it comes to upgrades, the phone should be graded based on the person who is the MOST LIKELY to upgrade. So first and foremost, a person with an S7 Edge or S7 period, would not be looking at the Note released the same year of the S. The Note is not an S upgrade. So they are off the table. A person with the Note 5 is a potential upgrader, but less likely depending on carrier. Like for example, if you are on VZW doing monthly, they dont;' offer an upgrade option. You either have to completely pay off the old device to upgrade, while if you have T-Mobile Jump!, you can jump anytime as long as 50% of the phone is paid off. The real upgraders would be anyone with a Note 4 or older. And to anyone with a Note 2/3/4, the Note 6/7 is a substantial upgrade. if PA is grading the Note 6/7 on the merit of the Note 5 or S7 edge, then the are fill of BS. Because the iPhone 6S Plus received a very high score, and yet it was actually worse than the previous model; but certainly better than the 5S. PA's reviews don't affect my buying decision because I do my own research and comparison. even though I have a Note 5, The Note 7 is a huge improvement. For one you get new tech. I like that I get the S7's camera without buying an S7. I like that it is curved a first for the Note. I like that it's waterproofed for the first time even down to the pen. I like that sdcard support has returned. It has a larger battery than the previous model.. That is way more pluses than the iPhone 6S ot over the iPhone 6 by a shear landslide. This has nothing to do with what phones are being released. It has all to do with PA's bias a crazy love for Apple vs Samsung. They can't seem to accept the fact that yet again an outsider is beating another US company as it kills them. No matter how they score it, the Galaxy is beating the iPhone in nearly every category, but the only ones that mater to be is features and battery-life. Both which blow any phone. Apple is Samsung nearest competitor, but not the only. The fact Samsung leads all Android OEM's buy huge numbers shows they make better stuff right now. In a few years it will be someone else. They all get a turn, so lets fairly review them.
