Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 vs Apple iPad 3

0. phoneArena posted on 22 Aug 2012, 07:18

Very recently, Samsung launched its long awaited Galaxy Note 10.1 Android tablet – the Korean company's answer to Apple's ever-beloved new iPad. With its S-Pen stylus in hand, Samsung is betting that its pen is going to be mightier than the metaphorical sword wielded by the new iPad, which so happens to have a stranglehold on the market...

Not much point to the higher-res display without software to take advantage of it...

Can you use your ipad as phone? The note can. What can 't the note 10.1 that the ipad 3 can? Nothing. But i can tell you the note 10.1 can do something that the ipad 3 cant.
1. Phone functionality to text and call.
2. S pen writing.
3. Watch so many video formats, avi, mov, mp4 and a whole lot more where in the ipad can only play mp4 and mov. So you need to do some converting of formats. So time consuming.
4. Drag and drop of files? Ipad cant. Come to think of it, it is easier to use the note 10.1
5. The ipad can only be synced with one pc via itune so u need to have a personal pc while the note 10.1, u can use anyone elses pc to be able to put songs ,movies and even windows word, excel etc
6. You can download movies and songs for free using torrent and mp3 downloaders while the ipad can't.
You can download youtube video and youtube to mp3 format with the note 10.1. Ipad can't.
Mmm what else? My wife is an apple fanatic so i know what it can't do that my android can. By the way, i have an iphone 4s which my wife gave me so im stuck with it hahhahaha i want the samsung note 2 but i dont want to hurt her feelings so im suffering with my iphone 4s lmao

Fair comparison. Putting ist simple:
- iPad for entertainment and simplicity loving mass consumers and people looking for great third-party apps, those who read and surf the web a lot
- Nexus 7 for those who want a mini tablet with an attractive price tag
- Transformer Infinity for those who simply prefer Android over iOS on a personal level and/or do a lot of movie watching
- Galaxy Note 10.1 mostly for professionals only

when it comes to camera and video
galaxy note 10.1 is actually way better than ipad
it just that the resolution of note downgraded the image we seen from the picture :(

"Honestly, the qualities of both devices are on par to one another, but we have to give the slight advantage to the iPad – purely because it handles low lighting better."

"For starters, the iPad boasts 1080p recording, while the Galaxy Note 10.1 sticks to yesterday's 720p. Details are pretty much the selling point for the new iPad, as the Galaxy Note 10.1's production is simply too soft to accept as high definition."

U trolling again? :)

The iPad actually costs less than the Asus Transformer Prime in the most basic versions.

(At least here in Europe.)

Only if you compare the 16 GB iPad version against the 32 GB ASUS Transformer version (with microSD slot for other 32 AND keyboard included).
Even then you have the ASUS transformer TF300T that cost the same as the iPad 16 GB and has also keyboard and 32 GB internal memory.
And I could start about buying the ASUS transformer prime without keyboard...
In my opinion your price comparison is waaaay off.

Still it is the basic version of the Transformer Prime, no matter the features.

You see, im Europe/German-living. Here, we cannot buy a Prime without keyboard dock. So, this is a europe-wide price comparison:
Transformer Prime starts at 540 euro.
Whereas the iPad starts at 450 euro. For 540, you can also get an 32 GB version.

The Infinity Pad is the only tablet that can compete in terms of hardware (you would not try and deny it, right?) and the software is a matter of preferance.
But, the thing is, the iPad costs less in basic configuration. The most basic configuration costs 600 euro without dock - for that price plus a few dozen euro you can also get an iPad 64 GB.

And, again: i am telling you what the situation is like in Europe, no guess what it is like in the USA.

I'm also talkig about European prices.
And yes: I would deny that the Infinity PAD is the only one that can compete in terms of hardware, as it has a LOT better hardware. The iPad 3 should be compared to the prime as much.
It's just a plain lie that in Germany you can't buy the transformer prime without the keyboard, 500 Euros for the 64 GB:
and now let's compare with the price of the iPad 3 with 32 GB, 575 Euros:
And you can also go for the transformer TF300 which is even cheaper: 400 Euros

So don't go telling than the basic iPad is cheaper when at the same specifications is much more expensive. And stop comparing the prices of the transformer WITH KEYBOARD INCLUDED to the iPad without keyboard and A LOT LESS memory.
Note: all links just go to Amazon Germany

...thanks to the statement that the new iPad should be compared to the Prime, while the Prime could never be more than equal the iPad 2 - i remember the tests on Phonearena and The Verge.

Thats something where i cannot argue with you when you dont stop to deny the facts. The Transformer Pad blows away the iPad in terms of CPU performance, the iPad does the same in terms of graphics performance. The Pad is slightly lighter, while the new iPad has the 20% better resolution and a bit better build quality (both great here). Battery life is the same. That is what i call equal.

Lets compare iPad 2 with the Infinity Pad just cause i say they are equal.

And: the Amazon prices on iPads are insane. Here one with 32 GB for 540 Euro:

Sorry for that one with the Prime keyboard - i just did not find it.
It should be compared like that: Prime vs iPad 2, Infinity vs iPad 3. Isnt that obvious?

It´s not obvious to me when the Prime offers HDMI output, usb, much better cameras and micro SD compared to the iPad 2.
And I find kind of funny you were not able to find the Asus Transformer Prime without keyboard when you can find it in the same page you were posting for just 470 Euros with 32 GB:
And the infinity with 64 GB for less than 600
It looks to me that you put a lot of effort to find the best offers for the iPads, but you don´t do the same for the other tablets. It just took me 5 minutes to find all those good prices for the ASUS transformer in the same pages you were posting.
One more thing: you call "facts" to things not everyone would agree with and there is much and more to discuss about your "facts".

And one more thing, the original discussion was about your statment (completely false as demostrated) that "The iPad actually costs less than the Asus Transformer Prime". And now you change your discurse about that you have to compare it to the Infinity? Way to go to justify the iPad prices!

If you compare an 2011 tablet with the newest iPad and dont even agree with the iPad 2 being equal of the Transformer Prime (while most experts including Phonearena rated it as good or even lower than the iPad 2) then you still cant disagree with the most basic version of the new iPad still being cheaper than the Transformer Prime.
Like you found out yourself - the most basic Prime is 479 euro. The most basic new iPad 450 euro despite being newer and much higher rated. For 479 euro you can get a 64 GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 today.

(Sorry for my poor english again. Im european.)

I really wonder if you don't get tired of being wrong in your arguments. Or you just lie on purpouse for the sake of your arguments?
Let's start with your argument that Phonearena rated as good the Prime as the iPad 2:
"the Transformer Prime buys you something that’s newer, stronger, and the better performer as it outclasses the iPad 2 in plenty of categories. Indeed, Asus has the advantage of being a newer tablet, rather than being a year old model like the iPad 2, but when you take everything that it offers into consideration, it’s astoundingly evident that it’s the superior one."
Where do you understand in that statement that the iPad 2 is equal or better if I may ask? Can you even understand english?
Quoted from phonearena itself:
First false fact: phonearena says clearly that Prime is better.

Let's check about the comparison between the Prime with the iPad 3:
"Just like two gods going at each other in the heavens, they’re immortal and cannot be defeated – so yes, they stand equally to one another. Therefore, we have to settle for the fact that neither one can actually claim victory seeing that they share the same pedestal."
Second false fact: phonearena says that they are equal.
Ups, pwned again!

And as I said before: stop comparing a 16GB (equal) tablet with a 32GB one, as that confuses people who reads the comment!
The very least you should have done is to say: the iPad 3 with 16 GB cost a little less than the Prime with 32 GB...
That would have been impartial and we would not be having this discussion.
Because with the SAME INTERNAL MEMORY: the Prime is CHEAPER.

PS: don't worry about your english, not everyone is this forum has english as his mother language.

It does cost less than the Transformer Prime, that stays unchanged. It doesnt matter what features (memory) the Prime has, it still is more expensive than the basic new iPad.

At this point it should be pointless trying to tell you that the new iPad is the best tablet - im fine with Phonearena saying it, (in this article, for example) TheVerge, CHIP, PC Magazine rating it highest. And: this highest rated tablet is actually cheaper than the Prime in starting price. There is nothing more i wanted to tell you about, as it would be pointless. You stick with Android, i am with iOS.

Telling delusional tales again?
Where in this article Phonearena that the iPad 3 is better than the Transformer Prime?
It says that both the Prime and the iPad 3 are better than the Note 10.1, that's it. So please keep your delusions for yourself or for people who don't actually read the articles themselves.

As for the other sites, please provide the links. I'm tired of smacking you whenever I look for the information you don't provide.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Back-to-school-2012 -your-guide-to-tablets_id33524#1-The-new-Apple-iPa d
2012 tablet guide by Phonearena. "The new iPad is simply the best tablet out there.
http://www.chip.de/bestenlisten/Bestenliste-Tablet s--index/index/id/970/
CHIP, one of Europes biggest tech magazines and the by far biggest in Germany. No surprise it rated the new iPad highest, but you know who is second? Yes, still iPad 2.
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/ne w-ipad-3-1071369/review/page:14#articleContent
Techradar, a huge tech site. It rated the iPad highest with 4,5/5 and the verdict was: "no doubt were once again looking at the leader in the tablet race. [...] once you've gazed adoringly into the Retina Display, played any of the high-power games or watched a Full HD movie in your hands, you'll struggle to not hate any tablet that isn't the new iPad 3". Transformer Prime was allready on the market by that time. I am not denying it was also rated very high - but it was never once called the best tablet, just the best Android tablet.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/14/2870533/ipad-rev iew
The Verge. No comment - it is just the by FAR best rated tablet with 9.3. Galaxy Note 10.1 was rated 5.4, but that is just saying.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2401677,00.as p
Also no further comments needed. It was called the best tablet multiple times in this review.

So, you have five huge (three out of them - PC Mag, The Verge and Techradar are the arguably most reliable outta there, i would not give that much about Phonearena and CHIP, if you ask me) saying the same thing. And still, the iPad starts at a lower price.
