OPPO R7 Plus Review

Oppo's R7 series of smartphones is the Chinese manufacturer's strategic force for conquering the mid-range category, where devices aim to offer quality design and satisfactory performance at a more affordable price point compared to brand-name flagship smartphones. The Oppo R7 Plus is...

The Find 7 and 7a were really good allrounders- why can't Oppo continue that?

I have this phone and I have to agree that there are many flaws in it. I also have a Samsung S6 and Sony Z3 compact - the Sony now being the same price as this R7plus - so Oppo are charging big money for what is an outdated hardware phone- it does lag when browsing and generally feels cheap compared to the Sony and Samsung. It does look nice and I'm guessing Oppo are more concerned to sell bucket loads of these as fashion accessories rather than as serious phones. There is just no way the R7plus compares to the Sony or Samsung in performance in any area apart from looks. Fingerprint recognition is a joke compared to my S6 --it just doesn't work until the 3rd or 4th attempt --chronic so my advice would be just don't use it on the Oppo- also it's on the back? Crazy so that means you can't fit it into a case as the case will cover the fingerprint area-much better for the Samsung home key front way. The Oppo is a poor design in day to day use in my experience. Also please bear in mind that Oppo have a terrible customer care record- look at the web for customers who just get ignored by Oppo once you have bought the phone-- be careful- my advice would be to spend a little more for a better phone and a better customer support. Phone looks nice -battery lasts ages but everything else is poor.

Most of your arguments here are plain old bulls**t. The fingerprint scanner works better than most other android phones and short of iPhone's latest, move your finger around when you are setting it up and you'll see how good it really is. As for your customer care comment, really? you think Sony has better customer support? when was the last time Sony didn't make you buy a new phone to fix shortcomings of their existing phones? it's no wonder Sony releases a new phone every 2 days, it's their way to 'patch' their existing devices. As for cases covering the scanner... what? that's why there are cases specific to each phone.

PocketNow and AA has better reviews and gave it a high score. This phone can easily gain the same or similar score as the Find 7. I even tried the phone myself and it is a pleasent device to use.

"The R7 Plus's display characteristics don't live up to its price tag, which revolves around the $500 mark. " Fair enough.. Fort his price one can get Nexus 6P 32 GB with google backing it up and great optimization and topping up Oppo in most departments.

At this point, it is safe to conclude that if one needs to read phone reviews before buying phone, PA is definitely not a reliable review source. I guess gsmarena is better.

Oh, give me a break, people! This phone has practically the SAME SPECS as the Alcatel OT Idol 3 (big one), but that phone costs ONLY 250 USD, (That phone got a well-deserved 8.5 from PA!http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Alcatel-OneTouch-Idol-3-5.5-inch-Review_id4004) but you people think Oppo should get a pass for this phone with THE SAME SPECS FOR DOUBLE THE PRICE (500USD?!) It's one thing to complain about an "unfair" review, but it's another to complain without knowing all the facts.

The thing is that in the OnePlus Two review they decided to look past its pricing. Here they are docking points because of pricing. Where's the consistency in these reviews then? I realize that there are different reviewers, but lately Chris and Luiz have been giving some really weird and inconsistent reviews.

The Oneplus Two was a fail because even with its price, that phone promised to be a "Flagship Killer," but in key metrics it ended up WORSE than current flagships. That's a failure of message, I mean, I'd expect a Hyundai Genesis to be BETTER than a BMW for a lot less and will criticise them for failing to deliver on it, why should I not do the same for my phones? This Oppo was a fail because it was straight up overpriced for its specs. It's like buying an Audi for an Audi price, when it has the SAME MECHANICS as a VW Golf, which commands less but delivers the same speed, handling, and fuel economy. That's a failure in positioning. Clearly, Chinese phone makers are not learning from the other Asian/Western makers fast enough...

The Alcatel has half the storage, 2Gb ram, is plastic, has an LCD screen rather than AMOLED, normal glass, no fingerprint scanner, a noticeable slower focusing camera, a smaller capacity battery, no fast charging and a smaller screen... yes, apart from that it's practically the same as the R7 Plus. As for the extra screen size 0.5" makes a big difference, just ask your girlfriend.

I've counted on this site for unbiased reporting on new phones, one of the very few that is out there. To see an Oppo R7 get a 5 basically just cause he didn't like the screen and there were lags on his games is ridiculous, esp after the iPhone rave over the same ole same ole. Phone Arena just took a big hit on credibility with me.

No I'm not a friend of Luiz - I just happen to have this phone and stand by my comments when compared to Sony or Samsung that I also have. If Oppo were cheaper I could accept some of the flaws I mentioned - and no I don't hate Chinese phones it just happens that from my experience with Oppo mirror 5 -Oppo N1 and Oppo R7plus the phones are just not in the same reliability and performance league as other mainstream brands that I have used over the years on a daily basis. The price is far too high and my earlier comment about very poor customer service is also an important factor for many people when buying an expensive phone. There are better phones and far better customer service out there -- and it's not Oppo based on my experience and that of many others on the web.

Wow based on the low rating I was expecting a long list of negatives. Instead I find just three of them and very minor ones at that. Sure the display isn't "true to life" but so are many and besides it doesn't look that bad. Its very useable and I doubt the lag is very noticeable as well. Video recording probably isn't that horrible as well. Certainly not enough to warrant such a low score. Especially considering the amazing design and battery life it has.

It's a great phone, I've used a Note 4 and no way I'll go back to that after this, the battery lasts way longer and the difference in screen size is noticeable enough that I don't feel the need to use my tablet anymore.

I got a question Luis. About the timing of this review. When was this phone actually reviewed and when did you make that video? Because in the video, when it reaches its front facing camera, there in some selfies, you have your goatie trimmed while back to the video again, you are again with that goatie. How? Don't get it. Also, no offense, but please, that goatie is beyond terrible. You look a lot better without it. Please remove it for your readers' sake.
