Microsoft Lumia 640 XL Review

Just last month, we got to experience the Microsoft Lumia 640, a budget-priced Windows Phone first introduced back during Mobile World Congress 2015. As a complement, now, its bigger sized twin is now available for the taking – bringing together a phablet-sized smartphone on the cheap. Yes folks, it’s an easy $250 to snag the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, which is a perfect timing considering Windows 10 is on the horizon!...

Only thing that is a turn-off for me is the old SD 400 chipset, but everything else is looking great so far. I am thinking of buying this phone, after selling my current one.

It's def. not a gamer-phone, but Microsoft has done an outstanding job getting WIN Phone OS to run far better than Android with Snapdragon 400. Recent Consumer Satisfaction survey placed Lumia 635 & 640 at top overall among new phones purchased in past year!

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be a gamer phone, but a newer chipset would be nice. They have used the 400 quite a lot on different Lumia phones and it is quite dated. A minor flaw, but everything else rocks. That's just me.

I honestly would recommend you looking at getting a Lumia 1520 instead. Just about everything on it is better than this phone and on eBay you can find one that is in excellent (sometimes even brand new condition) for about $250, which is the same price as this phone. Also, I'm fairly certain the 1520 is going to receive the Windows 10 update as they used the device to demonstrate Windows 10 a few months ago.

Color Temperature, Tint, and Saturation are adjustable in Windows Phone "Display" settings... Which color settings were used for measurements quoted in this review?

the main feature missing for which thisotherwise great phone lost on .5 or 1 more mark is the apple logo.otherwise it could have scored about 8.5-9 points

If only Microsoft could get the price/value right like this for all of their devices. This is a really great value at $199. I wish MS has a similarly good value at $399.

Not trying to start an OS war but this phone getting an 8 and the Zenfone 2 getting an 8.3 is crazy. I owned the Zenfone 2 and I currently use the 640 (not much different than the XL). It's not that close. Besides that I have to say the value for the 640 is extremely good, the perfect back up phone. the best phone for $100-$130 range.

IMO this should be 8.5-9. There is simply nothing wrong with it. I highly doubt the effectiveness of their custom script, only because other sites get nearly 9hrs of video off the phone. Higher than the 7hrs custom script.

Again antutu benchmarks of WP been compared to Android you even read what says in antutu app? And I'm pretty sure that there's also blue and green colors available for this phone.

Does PA even do proper research anymore? Black and white choices only? No, that's half of the available choices. Wonder what else they get wrong with everything else...

Available "color choices" will vary by Country and Carrier. If the color you prefer isn't included with the phone, you can order it as an accessory thru Microsoft or eBay...

hmm if you are a big phone fan this one is not a bad one to get. . if only you could use a surface pen with it could be a more useful device for sure

Sure, and if they had thought to include a Taser, Cortana could also double as a nanny... (My point being -- with a $250 USD price point, the features & performance of the entry-level 640 XL phablet already make it a 'phantastic' value; Microsoft isn't overlooking the high-end phablet market, and the 1st "Continuum" phablet from M'soft will stretch the definition of "Smartphone" further than it has ever been taken before... Can you hold your breath 'til March?)
