HTC One X vs Apple iPhone 4S

0. phoneArena posted on 04 Apr 2012, 08:30

The HTC One X has been one of the most-anticipated handsets for the first half of this year, and for a reason – this is the first phone powered by a quad-core processor, and not only that. The One X seems like a dream come true for every geek with passion for smartphones. However, it's not only specs these days, so you can't judge a device by its specs sheet. It is time for the One X to go through the ultimate test. It's time for it to face the iPhone 4S!...

I'll take the one x despite being a WP user. I love big screens. Anything less than 4.3" is just a clam shell. Smarts phones of today are suppose to be productivity and entertainment all in one. Gotta have big screen for that. Flash, i miss that so much on my phone and only Android has it. honestly i don't knows of anything particular that makes the iPhone better than the one x besides the name Apple. Hey, there are alot of gullible and imbecilic people out who refuse to do research but let the geeks and tech media tell them what to do.

OK so the onex wins every category but browsing and camera because of easily fixed software glitches... yet the iPhone "wins"? lol. come on

what's easier than iOS? android. Widgets and folders make it so everything instant and organized. I don't even go in my app drawer anymore. organization triumphs a dozen pages of apps in a grid.

The majority of you fanatics are pathetic - both Android and Apple.

The review wasn't stellar, but everything Ray wrote about was legit and I'm glad he gave his view on how what some believe is the current top-dog Android phone compares to the most popular smart phone on the market.

If his preference is indeed an iPhone 4S then good for him. It basically single-handedly has removed the fear of technologically advanced smart phones from people who no way, shape, or form believed they'd ever take the plunge. You can't deny how incredibly simple it is to use and how smooth the UI is. I'm a fan, but I'm a bigger fan of Google and have more faith in the upcoming Android phones.

I will be looking forward to Ray's take on the upcoming flagship Android phones like the SGIII because it'll mean that much more to me if a fan of the iPhone gives legitamite praise to what may be the next new top dog. And if he doesn't... well, then these companies need to work that much harder to better Apple.

Either way, I'll probably be getting the SGIII no matter what (granted it comes to Verizon...), but I'm all for this healthy competition where Apple is more-or-less in the lead.

So the iPhone is the AOL of smartphones. It gets a bunch of people to jump into a realm they no little about with a total closed off ecosystem, it does really terrific for 10 years then starts to nosedive when people realize that the other options offer more variety, more personalization, and hey with a little time investment aren't terribly hard to use.

Why should a "simple because of a lack of customisations" phone be a de facto standard?

Considering a phone's software to be sub-par because of its (*replaceable*, it's android we're talking about) stock keyboard and browser is, simply put, ridiculous.
The only quality that's sub-par is the reviewer's. Hire someone who can speak properly instead of publishing horribly long video reviews because we have to listen to UM all the time from some utterly incompetent guy.

I don't see anyway that the comparison is even relevant.. the 4s is too old a device (it actually 4 s'ed).. It has absolutely nothing new or interesting up its sleeve.

Until Apple comes up with screen, processor, battery, browser, UI, etc... improvements atleast. (Hoping for 5 or 4Sssss)

For now I would like to see a comparison between RAZR MAXX (running ICS) and ONE X..
The only questionable part of ONE X is its battery, rest is all leagues ahead of 4S..
Commenting on the review is pointless as the author is clearly in love with the Brand Apple Iphone

I actually care about - 1. Battery, 2. Build, 3. UI - OS, 4. Design, 5. Screen, 6. Processor
In that order.. But hey thats just me..

"We, personally, prefer the glass of the iPhone 4S to the polycarbonate of the One X."

PhoneArena I will repeat myself again and again!! WHO IS "WE"? you are a tech site please stay neutral .. you are suppose to give us a review not your OWN person opinion!! specifically when doing a review .. LET US be the judge. You do your review do not persuade us (readers) and i can give you many good reasons to why i would buy a POLYCARBONATE over a fragile glass and problematic metal!

we get it Iphone 4S is good at its department but when a review is done its just a REVIEW not the examiners personal opinion

I am not going to say much but hey PA just look at your "vs" pic on your homepage...the beauty of the oneX overshadows the phone next to it. And don't get me started on a comparison b/w the android and the ios. Drag and Drop is all m gonna say. \m/

Its all about the rating folks, all about the ratings. If they can stir something up and bring people to the site, they've done their job. The only true reviewer is the individual who've used the device a week or two the post their take. Can you believe it, thumbed down down my own post by accident. Funny how it can be possible.

Day one iPhone user here, had, have them all....this article is just plainly biased. The iPhone hasn't changed anything significant since it started, phonearena even said so in the article, no inovation other than minor tweak the fanboys think are WOW.

Guys, the HTC One X soo exceeds the iPhone for normal peoples use it isn't even funny...I own both.

If you suggest otherwise then you're just stuck in "Hotel California" just where Apple wants you.

The peoples friend

1. Build quality
Glass breaks, polycarbonate doesn't.
2. Display
Bigger is better (ppi should be as much as the eye can see).
3. Interface
icons vs personalizations: widgets / tiles / any sort of active informations are better than a list of icons.
4. Messaging
iPhone has a great keyboard, HTC also has a great one; the second is bigger -> go to point 2 (is swype available for iP?)
5. Internet and Connectivity
It's well known Flash makes browsing experience "somewhat clunky and [...] visibly unresponsive at times".
So, close Flash in One and test the browsers again.
14.4 Mbit/s < 21.1 Mbit/s.
6. Camera
HTC has more features, I see iPhone delivers a better quality.
7. Performance
If you say iP has a better call quality, I must believe you but I doubt you tested the phones with HD Voice service active. It's impossible to say a phone without HD Voice is better that a phone with it... it's lame, stupid, absurd or even phantasmagorical.
1 day (10 hours) is all one can get from a smartphone.

1. HTC because of poly, because rough corners in iP hurt my hands, because iP is slippery and too expensive to drop (=the glass breaks).
2. iP; I find 4,7" in HTC way too much.
3. HTC; I already have a menu with all my apps, the display should be full of shortcuts to my everyday needs.
4. I don't write much sms/emails so it's a draw for me.
5. HTC; you don't get more than 8-10 MB/s but I do as much as 43 (theoretically) so for me faster is better; I usually use Opera Mini (no flash) so it's hard to encounter your so called "clunky" experiences.
6. iP; 3 Mp is ok for me if it has a good lens; I am yet to see more tests but the images posted here show iP is better.
7. HTC. HD Voice mops the floor with iP so-call quality.

Would I chose any one of this 2 phones?
iP is too stupid, HTC is too big.

Just as I suspected: US carriers do not provide HD Voice services (Sprint will be the first one to offer it).

When the Sony LT29i, name code Hayabusa, release ,is that i want to see the review of these gentlemans. Then is that the things will start to heat. With the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 in the specs and almost certain a good quality in multimedia department, like the video recording and playback and the photography more the spectacular display quality and the lte radio connection that the iphone 4s hasn't yet, then the Iphone 4S it's completely pulverized. In terms of cpu performance it's like to compare the day with the night which this Sony smartphone it's the day and the Iphone 4S it's the night. Must be 4 times more powerful in terms of cpu performance than Iphone 4S.

Only one word to describe this article...garbage. As it happens, I got my One x today and it is easily the best mobile phone out there. I feel qualified to say that as I still have my iP4s, a Galaxy Nexus and the Sony Xperia S. The IP4s serves me as nothing but an ipod basically. In terms of PA's comments on its size, the first thing I did upon unboxing is compare it to the Nexus, their share screen size but the Nexus looks, feels and is bigger as the One x has little or no bezel.

The IP4 has its merits but, in truth, I can't imagine using it on a long term basis. I do like to change my phones frequently but am hardly inclined to pick up my iPhone as from my stand point, the user experience on the others is way better. Oh, by the way, the screen on the Xperia S is still the gold standardbut the One x gives it a run for the money, even with that 4.7 inch screen!

I forgot to talk of the good construction that this Sony Hayabusa will have beyond of the display, of course.

A few typos in the last one but wtf! Oh by the way, I don't particularly care for the iOS v Android thing, I am more interested in "my" user experience and interaction with the handset. Galaxy S2 runs on android but am not a fan regardless of its outstanding qualities!

Really? I mean, yeah, the iPhone has its perks, but those are nothing compared to the One X. I am probably never going to watch another review like this (Android vs. iPhone) done by Ray ever again, because he is obviously heavily inclined towards the iPhone, no matter how blatantly obvious it is that it is lacking in ever aspect.

Ray, Question.

If and when the eventual updates come from HTC to fix the browser and maybe camera, are you going to update the review and change it to the oneX as the clear winner in the "battle"?
