Appeasing shutterbugs all around, both premier smartphones take lovely photos with their respective 8-megapixel cameras. And to tell you the truth, it’s almost difficult to gather which of the two is better, as they deliver sharp looking details and natural color reproductions with shots taken outdoors under plentiful lighting. Though, we do notice a subtle amount of saturation with the iPhone 5’s photos that add some vibrancy to its shots. However, it’s a victory for Apple’s pride and joy in low lighting conditions, seeing its shots are brighter and able to draw out more of the visuals within the view.

Frankly, it’s a close race with their still shot performance, but it’s an outright unanimous win for the iPhone 5 when it comes to 1080p video recording quality. Above all, we’re distracted by the Nexus 4’s soft and dull looking details, plus, the noticeable artifacting elements that diminish its overall looks. Conversely, the iPhone 5 proves its worth with its visually stronger performance.

On one hand, we’re not that blown away by the conventional looks of their music players, but they do have their unique standout aspects. To be specific, we continue to be pleased by the iPhone 5’s coverflow mode, and the 3D carousel view of the Nexus 4. Listening to the tones put out by their internal speakers, we’re not able to gravitate towards one more, as the two produce pleasant tones with minimal distortion.

No doubt, they’re both more than capable of playing high definition videos, but considering that bigger is usually better for watching, we find the Nexus 4 to be more suitable for the occasion. Moreover, there’s barely any conversion required by us to transfer 1080p videos onto the Nexus 4.

I have no problem with the fact that the Nexus 4 doesn’t have LTE. The carriers who really implement it charge too much for it anyways. I can live without it. I agree that the screen is brilliant though. Movies and shows look great on it, and a DISH coworker who also has one would agree. I use the DISH Remote Access app on my phone to stream live TV through the Sling Adadpter that I have connected to my home receiver. It’s very useful for keeping up with my shows, even if I can’t be at home.

I say, even as a so called 'Apple fanboy', I'd still feel the crown has to be given to the Nexus 4. In fact, I'm already deciding whether to switch from my iPhone 5 to a Nexus 4. Yeah iOS is feeling really, really stale so if Apple seriously doesn't hurry up and offer more power user features and customisability (like ringtones etc) I'm gonna ditch iOS cos' its lagging like 1-2 years behind in technology =_= I'm a really 'price conscious' person, so for what the Nexus 4 offers, speed, design, high end specs and best of all stock Android 4.2, and at a third of the price of iPhone 5 (In my country) the winner must be the Nexus 4. I regretted getting my iPhone 5 had I known Nexus 4 would be coming out, period.

I just want to know why you kept complaining on the glass back and lack of LTE on the iPhone 4S and said " Good build quality??? IT'S GONNA BREAK after one drop!!!" or " The Galaxy nexus has LTE and is is so much better and faster than the iphone 4S", , But now that the flagship android phone Doesn't have either you say " HSPA+ is fast enough " or " The nexus 4 has a beautiful glass back " . And please don't say it has LTE because it only works in a few canadian bands and carriers will get so pissed that they will push google to kill this hidden feature. KARMA IS A BITCH

iP5 all the way, baby! It is like comparing Cadillac to a KIA. One is Apple, the other looks like some cheap plastic copy or some sort of Samsung or an LG. At least the OS could be other, but with this Android - no thanks. In this comparison the Nexus should be at least twice cheaper than the iPhone in order for someone to buy it instead of the Apple.

"Even from a cursory glance, we still can’t help be attracted to the iPhone 5’s iconic design and its premium construction. " The same look since the iphone 4? Must be a fatal attraction....

Great comparison :) nexus 4 is an amazing phone, even without the low price. iPhone 5 is great too, but nothing beats what you get on the Nexus 4 for the price.

Lets be honest here, if you want to be able to personalize your phone to your liking and watch videos on a big screen the nexus 4 is for you. If you wanna video capture and take pictures all the time and have a simple camera like interface the Iphone 5 is for you!!!!

I'm no fan of the sparkly back either, I was hoping they would give it the carbon fiber pattern like they did the AT&T Optimus G. Though, the rounded design is pretty nice, I prefer curved edges, it makes it feel more ergonomic. But some people do like the more blocky "industrial" design.

Great comparison except I have to disagree on some of the points made in the design section. First off, the iPhone isn't that much narrower and the length is similar, how does that make the iPhone easier to hold? On both phones you cannot activate the upper corner with one hand due to the length of the phones, both require two hand use for top activated items. If it was the Note II, I'd say the iPhone was definitely easier to hold but the N4 isn't that far off from the iPhone in size. Secondly, get over your love affair with aluminum. I got my N4 last night and can say with assurance it's a sturdy build quality, this phone feels solid on all levels of build aspects. Many Android phones get ragged on for having plastic backs, the N4 is gorilla glass and it still doesn't get the credit for great build quality. Both phones are solid. N4 is slick though, totally agree with that and will have to get used to making sure it's sitting on a level surface. Why doesn't the iPhone get called conventional on the front face? It's the same design since 2007. If that's not conventional, I don't know what is. The screen is now 4" but the earphone is the same, and it still has the big button on the bottom. Conventional. Other than that, I can see about everything else that is compared.

Talk about the clear cut win. Same time last year this comparison was debatable in terms of winner, but now only a completely clouded vision reviewer could see the iPhone as the better of the two. Nexus 4 kicks the iPhone 5 out of the park.

iPhone 5 at 650? That's that's a super bargain! In some countries it costs some of your organs.

to be honest, it wouldve been a tougher choice for me between the nexus 4 and iphone 5 if the iphone was cheaper, better designed, and had something new to offer as far as OS. i think the stretched out iphone 4 idea was dumb, but dang does that camera look good...

You mean sexy, with the nice glass backing like the iPhone 4? Weren't the droidheads decrying and blasting the iPhone because of this built? But again, Nexus was the first device with glass.

the design is 11/12 compared to the gnex, but for the build quality the nexus 4 is clearly better than gnex
