Essential Phone Review

There is more to the Essential PH-1 (PH-one, phone, we see what they did there) than mere simplicity, but it is a good place to start. The beginning of such journeys usually reveal areas that need some improvement and refined development, and that is the case here.

I've seen a fair number of Youtube reviews with some of these issues. Pretty much all of them harp on the camera, and some (but not all) bring up the performance problems.

funny as new iphone supports wireless charging...now it's a con if a phone doesn't support it.

The build is excellent but the phone stutters with the top-of-the-line hardware? I'm so dismayed. Hopefully, they will correct all cons in the next Essential iteration.

Wow this review is just a roast! Good freshman attempt but too much money for a meh camera in a phone like this. The size is great and so is the design but aside from that, eh.

Damn, I didn't know the scale went that low, I assumed the low was 5 and the high was an Iphone.

Are you sure your unit isn't defective? Seems an iphone owner wrote this review. Not even a pro about how compact the unit is with the screen size.

So now you get negative points for not having wireless charging?! ALSO, I'm drawing a line in the sand right now. You guys complained about the phone being slippery. If I don't see that as a negative for the upcoming iPhones I'mma flip.

BRUH.... if they say the glass back panel on the iphone is perfect i'll be flipping with you, they have always praised the metal back over glass cause of finger prints and slipperyness of glass... i'm starting to get sick of this bias site

Dear Maxwell, By now we all aware about your love for cats and metal plates BUT for God sake this is suppose to be REVIEW shoot out not a random domestic session. Out of 17 day light images you managed to take 8 images of cat and 4 images of metal plate. That leaves us with 5 images of which another metal plate in perspective. Finally we end up with head -bang-flat 2 architectural images to compliment it you somehow, miraculously managed to test selfie camera for us. Single shot! Thanks for that :) You are epic. You pretty much don't care about phone so I don't much but this is your job which on the camera side you did courageously s**t job. You rounded it 4 as a whole package but I will beat you with BIG FAT 1 for camera review. Have decency to do your job properly. Didn't bother to read further.

This is the lowest rated handset on the site. Does this mean this is the worst handset you guys have ever reviewed?

The Jolla Phone got a 2 when they reviewed it. That's the lowest score I can remember seeing.

I know the phone isn't perfect. But no one else mentioned stuttering, that I can recall. And a 4? Come on! Was customer service really rated a con?

Droid Life did, and CNET referred to the camera app as a "dumpster fire." Even MKBHD said, "save your money."

Thanks. Didn't know about Droid Life. MKBHD's assessment was rough. But he wasn't harsh or wrong.

The Essential is such a beautiful phone and concept. It's truly sad that Andy Rubin was not able to deliver. Hopefully they can learn from their mistakes this round and still have money to create a new version for the following year.

Whoah, this phone was essentially not for me but a 4/10 rating!? This site is definitely not a place to come for reviews.

Aren't the below cons part of all iPhones which got 9+ rating. 1.High price reflects cost of materials, and little else 2.No wireless charging 3. No water or dust resistance
