Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S III

0. phoneArena posted on 27 Sep 2012, 09:09

It’s the battle between the flagships! Two handsets enter, only one can leave claiming supremacy in the smartphone landscape. For a good while now, Samsung’s pride and joy in the Galaxy S III has been tearing up the scene, and when the Apple iPhone 5 finally became a reality, Samsung made sure to let everyone know that “the next big thing is already here.” Talking the talk, we’re taking these two hotshot smartphones and pitting them against one another, to unequivocally proclaim which device reigns supreme amongst the two...

I guess this comparison was meant to appeal to PS's core audience. So I shouldn't expect any other result. The thing is Apple's audience is not PS's and regardless of the haters that rant against them they will always make products that get out of your way to make you more productive.

One example are widgets. The iPhone has widgets in the notification tray but that's it, why because battery drain is a big concern to apple. That's why the phone has like a 1400 Mill amp battery. Size and ascetics are very important to Apple because they know that the average person is more likely to buy something that looks good not loaded with features.

Something that was not covered in this review was a comparison between the processors (I mean system on a chip which includes GPU's) outside of mentioning they are both using dual cores. I read that the A6 is heavily customized form other ARM processors to the point that they are able to get higher Geekbench and Sunspider scores than form GS111 exynos quad core and the Tegra 3 quad core processors. In fact I read somewhere that the A6 is comparable to the Xbox 360 or the PS3.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even own a iPhone and who is quite happy with his Galaxy Nexus with GB.

This is anandtech's review on the iphone's monitorhttp://www.anandtech.com/show/6334/iphone-5-screen-performance

"To put this in perspective, in the past few years I've reviewed probably 30-40 different displays, from PC monitors, to TVs to projectors. Not a single one, out of the box, can put up the Gretag Macbeth dE numbers that the iPhone can, and perhaps one projector (which listed for $20,000) can approach the grayscale and color accuracy out of the box....The new panel in the iPhone 5 is simply remarkable in quality and if it were a PC monitor, I'd give it a Gold Award on the basis of its performance."

They both suck. IPhone 5 with awful iOS 6, closed platform, overprice and build quality. And SGSIII with its lags, bugs, while you think it's flawless. It's Samsung. I didn't expect more. Which puts latest tech on its devices, and gimmicky uninteresting "innovations". I use S2 right now so I know what I'm talking about. Be mad cause you are owning Samsung too. Thumbs down here I come.

Your comment is a joke, so you deserve at least one joking thumbs up instead of a thumbs down.

You can't compare using an S2 to using the S3... those are 2 different worlds in terms of software. I hate Touchwiz on my GS2 with a passion, but I find the Nature UX on the S3 to be very pleasing to the eye. Also, I never heard complaints of lag or bugs on the S3 nor the S2. Though I hate the software on the S2, it runs nearly perfect.

With the GS3; software is very nice but the design needs work.

With the iPhone 5; software is bad but design is nice (not counting durability).

I must say, the iPhone 5 takes superb photos especially when it comes to low lighting. That's not to say the GS3 is bad, it's just that it got slightly outperformed in this category.

How about a comparision on pricing and how Apple rips people off and over charges for everything? Who in their right mind would pay $100 for 16GB, let alone $200 more for 48GB? That has to be easily the dumbest thing I've ever seen. And of course, they make easily scratched surfaces that you can't remove to take out the battery, nor offer expandable memory so that they can charge insane amounts of storage. Hahaha!

There is one thing that makes ANYTHING better than products made by Apple and I can sum it up in 3 words: FREE TECH SUPPORT!!!

Though I've yet to ever own an iPhone, I've had an Apple iPod Touch for the last 3 years and its worked fine until the most recent iTunes update this month. That update crashed my computer and screwed up my iPod, making the device practically useless. And when I tried to go to Apple for tech support for something THEY SCREWED UP, I found out I would have to pay 20 bucks to get any kind of help. From that moment on, Apple permanently lost me as a customer. No customer should ever have to pay for tech support, especially when the company is at fault. So pit anything against an Apple product, and I will gladly choose that over them. I'll even side with products from LG, whom I forever dubbed "Lousy Generics!"

honestly, every 2012 smartphone has the iphone 5 beaten. this article is not even necessary. Apple only has one advantage which is brand image. much like louis vuitton bags and rolex watches.

"Meanwhile, though... very easy-to-use mobile operating system."

That last part is the Apple's marketing at work. They are able to trick even a website like this one. What do you mean easy-to-use? That phrase cracks me up, you mean when a lay man picks up an Android based phone they will have no idea how to dial out? Is the icon that LOOKS LIKE A PHONE too complicated? Oh wait I know its the little envelope icon for e-mail that is confusing, or is it the world looking Icon for web browsing.

Comments that the one by the author is the evidence that Apple marketing works. Because apparently people can't dial out using a Android phone since it is not "very easy-to-use" What a joke of a comment.

Out of all of the comparisons I've read on this site, I genuinely believe a lot of them to be biased, one way or another. This one, it actually made no decisions on anything so it couldn't really be biased, this is good. Keep up the good work!

Since everyone knows that the s3 is better than the ip5, some will say " at least i can drop my device without shattering it."
i don't know.. i'd rather it shatter so that i can get a new one than to have a phone that will be scarred for life. That's just me though.

"Meanwhile, though, the iPhone 5 remains the best device for users who just want a good-looking handset with great performance and a very easy-to-use mobile operating system."

That doesn't sound like "The world's most advanced mobile operating system." to me.
