redsn0w is also ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS
After GeoHot has made his purplera1n tool available to everyone, allowing current Apple iPhone 3GS users to jailbreak their devices, it has become of no use for the iPhone Dev-Team to wait for the right moment, in order to release its jailbreak tool. So, you can now download the redsn0w jailbreak tool and enjoy all those non-App Store applications. Of course, when you have jailbroken your device, you can also run ultrasn0w to unlock it, so that it would be usable with other carriers.

You can download redsn0w from here, while ultrasn0w will be available to you once you have the Cydia store (after the jailbreak).

What is the big deal apple? Afraid that people can develop their own apps and you can't charge them rediculous registration fees to maintain your "high" standards? You call microsoft a monopoly. go QQ more.

i dont understand all this... am not an iphone user, but i think i know a bit about "iphone jailbreak".... basically jailbreak is to "unlock" the iphone so we can download apps from outside apple's app store and use other carrier, right ? does it mean now, that even apple is "allowing" jailbreak ? what if i download non-app store apps ? will the phone be "locked" ? if apple is allowing, well it doesnt make sense ? why not sell the phone unlocked then ? afraid of android, palm pre, samsung, upcoming SE kind of domination ? or iphone dev-team is actually just a prank outsider not really the "official" apple developer team ? guess am missing something here...

That's very funny, however if Apple really wanted people to jailbreak their handset then there wouldn't be any point in selling apps because people would be getting them for free anyway... This is how it works. - Apple get a on going revenue share for each handset sold on a mobile carrier of like 20 to 35 % and profit from the sales of each device a network sells. - Apple Sell I-Phones from their store now off line to enhance those who want a I-Phone but don't want a 2 year contract... the only things is that this device will still be locked to O2 or the network carrier they have an agreement with in that country. - All the current exclusive deals around the world with Apple and other Mobile Carriers will end at the end of this year, allowing all other mobile carriers to sell the I-Phone, hence the reason costs on handset and tariffs are so high and not really value for money. If you are not aware, the I-Phone is really a new car with a 5 year old engine inside... although it's got great features it's still behind in what we would call mobile technology, just pick up an old Nokia 6230i or Sony Ericsson P900 and see how much you can do with it that your I-Phone can't do...! You’ll find that many old devices outshine the features of an I-Phone... Apples Strongest selling point is that it's First a Apple product second a easy to use touch screen phone and third has a good app store... other then that there's no wow factor about it...! Jailbreaking your phone allows you to gain these extra features your old beat up mobile can do by altering the environment and given you the simple things you've grown to know year on year as technology evolves. I have 25 Mobiles and yes they also consist of an I-Phone 3G, Bold, LG Arena, Touch Pro 2 and E90...the list goes on. I’m not an I-Phone Hater... I’m very involved in the Industry and work in a technical field in mobile communications.

You mean I should get the Nokia E72 instead of wasting time with Apple iPhone 3GS? But those apps are really great. I thought PC and phones have the same concept which is powerful hardware and great software. i.e. Windows PCs. Sorry I'm a noob at phone because I'm a PC users looking for a mobile PC not actually a laptop but more portable like iPhone.
