ZTE Apache with 8-core CPU said to be coming in 2013

0. phoneArena posted on 26 Nov 2012, 01:49

If you can't imagine a smartphone running with an 8-core CPU under the hood, better start thinking about it now because ZTE is rumored to have such a device ready in time for launch in 2013; the phone will use Mediatek's 28nm ARM15 MT6599 chip made using TSMC's 28nm process...

Aren't the people taking this article too seriously? Mediatek, really?
Just for the ones who don't know the company: they will finally release their first "quad core". With four A7 cores @ 1 GHz!!! That means it is around as powerful as an A9 DUAL core clocked at 1.4 GHz. And they are selling it as a competitor of the Krait quad cores...
In GPU they don't even tell you what they use, but as far as I'm aware the use a PowerVR SGX544 SINGLE CORE.
So if you are going to trust them with a 8 core chip and think is it going to be any good... well, just good luck with it, but don't put your expectations too high!

I'm fine with the Quad-Core Cortex-A7, it will do the job nicely, but... yeah, their choice of GPU *really* sucks... Check it: goo.gl/cuXNG

I´m not bashing them about the quad core A7, even if I find it quite silly and a marketing stunt, as you would be probably be better off with a dual core A9. The issue for me is that they compare that to a quad core Krait, when actually it has around half the processing power.
My point being: they use quite a obscure way to market their products, which goes from confusing to clearly disloyal. So I would wait to check what those octa cores have really inside before trusting them even one bit. It could end up being 8 A7 cores, which would go to the utterly useless field.

its the EXPERIENCE not just the specs. And so far even though they may be the fourth largest in the world, they are of little consequence if they cannot get the experience right. I hope they do succeed and actually bring better devices over here then we can judge accordingly.
