Woz says iOS 7 "looks beautiful" and says PRISM is unconstitutional

We all love Steve Wozniak, because Woz always tells it like it is. He may have been a co-founder of Apple, but he routinely points out where iOS has fallen behind Android. Well, this weekend, the guys from FayerWayer ran into Woz while he was waiting for a flight to Mexico City, and Woz had some very interesting things to say about iOS 7 and PRISM...

I think everyone loves Woz! I like his honesty and how open minded he is :)

Woz seems like such a great guy. Totally unbiased, appreciates technology for what it is and not whose name is on the box (even if he's responsible for that name). I have a feeling that Larry Page or Sergey Brin is going to be the next Woz. Say what you want about Google, but both of them seem geniunely interested in progress and transparency.

Larry Page is nothing like Woz. Larry Page is an idealist, Woz is way more pragmatic.

I am not sure I would consider Page as an idealist. He sure was quick to parrot the talking points once PRISM was outed. An idealist doesn't repeat verbatim talking points that were released by some of the more non-idealist companies in the segment.

I don't know, he was pretty idealistic during his keynote at Google I/O. His responses to the NSA stuff were opportunistic as best.

Keynote was a speech someone else most likely wrote for him. Idealism is for people who haven't arrived. Everything he says as an officer of Google gets vetted by attorneys. Especially responses to NSA surveillance programs.

He was not reading off a telepromter for his keynote. He had some bullet points and that was about it.

Bullet points are there to prompt him regarding what he can say. Wanna bet he didn't talk about any more than what was on the list of bullet points?

I think he's a little on the nutty side. He says oddball stuff to get attention. His comments ripping on Apple have been uncalled for and unwarranted.

Agree on both fronts. iOS7 is a dramatic improvement. I'm not crazy for the icons, but the rest of the OS looks like KDE and Holo had a kid. Seeing as I use both of those UIs on a daily basis, that's a good thing. As for the Patriot Act and PRISM, I'm still surprised that they haven't been declared unconstitutional, or at the very least, not renewed. We're talking about a country that spends hundreds of billions of dollars on trying to spread freedom to other countries, and yet they violate freedom constantly at home.

Patriot Act was renewed a little over 2 years ago (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/27/patriot-act-extension-signed-obama-autopen_n_867851.html ). As to constitutionality of PRISM program, you can't challenge something that is classified Top Secret as you can't tell if you have standing to sue, because whether you have had your rights infringed by PRISM is Top Secret. Yes, that last sentence is logically convoluted, but that is reality when it comes to any attempt to challenge top secret programs.

I know that the Patriot Act was renewed recently; thus the surprise about how it's still active. Part of that is that the President did promise to get rid of it, but I guess that's what I get for thinking a politician isn't lying 100% of the time. As for PRISM, true, but it's still a shame that the people in power do nothing to prevent this from happening.

Once people get in power, they become more conservative than they were before getting into power. Look at all of Barry's pronouncements before he became POTUS. Then compare his words with his actions as POTUS. There is a reason for the saying that actions speak louder than words....

I would disagree. Obama is the furthest thing from a conservative. He has pretty much done what he wanted even when he has to violate the Constitution and disregard Congress.

Woz has amazing eye sight. Having to tap delete after swiping also gives you one last chance to keep a message, versus not once you swipe it. Glad apple retained that feature.

Or maybe an option to undo the delete by tapping? Android has it that way (at least for gmail)

That would be nice too.

Well android solved that by adding an undo option every time you swipe and email away, plus swipe is kinda sensitive, it if feels like you suddenly swiped the other way it will keep the email (hope I explained that right)

hangouts witch will replace the text messaging app works the same way as Gmail but the stock app lacks that novelty

I generally would prefer a confirmation before you delete. However, I do find the undo feature just as handy. I do admit it is very convenient to delete many items quickly without having to do a confirmation for each one.

Ios7 is beautiful and prism is unconstitutional. I agree with you was but somewhat disappointed th that Apple should give dome credit to WP.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to check the status of PA members? Like who is on vacation, both temporary and permanent?
