How can you call her stupid? She mist have had a reason to get her phone, there may have been contacts on there of family she would never have been able to get hold of again. We don't know her reasons.

I wouldn't call her stupid, but today's smartphones have options to have everything saved to the cloud. Contacts, photos, videos, personal documents. The modern smartphone has moved beyond a simple app launcher of the original iPhone, and is now an access point for your digital life. People should be able to buy a new phone and have everything load automatically from your previous device. Had she backed up all her data like people should, then there would have been no need to run in to protect precious memories like family photos or videos... assuming that's the reason for her bad decision.

She can be called stupid because even in your scenario she kept the only copy of all of her unretrievable contacts on a phone. It could be nuclear launch codes, the fact that they are on your phone and only your phone screams "stupid!".

Wow, you completely missed the point of that. She didn't know there was going to be a fire, she didn't know if her phone would be stolen, or lost. Of if she would drop it in a lake. A million different things can happen to a phone every single day. So its just idiotic to store anything precious to you only on that one device.

I got the point mate, but you don't know her reasons or if she even knows she could backup her device so your point is invalid.

This is the saddest story I've ever read on P.A. My heart goes out to her daughter.

there is no proof that she had went back to get only her phone. Maybe some other personal belongings.
