0. phoneArena posted on 14 Aug 2013, 21:59

If you've been waiting patiently for the Windows Blue (aka Windows 8.1) update to come to your Windows 8 tablet, you still have a bit of a wait ahead of you, but at least there is a date to circle on your calendar for when to expect the update to be released. Microsoft has announced that Windows 8.1 will push out on October 17th...

If 8.1 is blue... Then does that mean that windows phone blue will be released sometime around that date as well? Is it even close to ready?

lol .... After installing Windows 8 Pro on my desktop (legitimate licensed Copy I assure you), I actually told friends that in no way was this iteration for the average user. Meaning that, Windows users previously on either Windows XP or Windows 7 would probably have head explosions trying to figure out the new interface and overhaul in general. I realize that this is an article on Windows 8 Tablet iteration update but, it only reaffirms my beliefs: Microsoft screwed up with the average Joe and Jane as, I can literally see users having conniption fits over trying to figure out just the basics. For the record, I'm beginning to really like Windows 8 [HATE THE DREADED TILES, THOUGH] and have been able to customize; I just hope I don't encounter hardware and software fiascos like I did with Vista. So far I've been able to install Corel VideoStudio X6, Pinnacle 16 Ultimate and Xilisoft onto my 64-bit Win8Pro. Over the weekend, I'll test Adobe CS6 MC and maybe Nero 12 Platinum. And, again, Windows 8 is NOT for the light-hearted or anyone who had the slightest of issue techically with either XP or 7. There should be a Windows 8 Lite for Dummies and it should be called, "Windows 8 Lite for Dummies"!

That's the problem with "average" people, not even trying to learn. My sister could learn almost everything in 3 days, even though she is not even close to a computer and phone geek as i am. As usual, blaming others instead of yourself.

I agree with you on the "average" Joe and Jane people who don't try to learn. Its sad but if they choose to be left behind then that's their problem. The new generation has no problem using the new technology of today and not yesterday. I have no problems with my Windows Phone and Windows 8 Pro with Media Center PC that I built. I love the animated live tiles and smoothness of the OS. Thank God for choice and Education.

Yeah i agree...it may b difficult for the average users..and the tiles suck..and the new interface may b good for touch devices but it looks like an unfinished product when using with a mouse and keyboard...but desktop mode is just like win 7..install something like Pokki(yeah weird name) and u ll rarely even know that u hv win 8 on ur system..i woudnt hv updated as its totally not worth but i wanted the new direct x as i bought a new card..
i believe MS is almost perfect at making desktop/laptop os...its the phone os where they suck..so they should stick with the desktops and try to make it even better by taking advantage of the new tech..like they can make a slightly different modified os for systems with heavier specs..

that is called speak for yourself

nobody expects to use their phone as a server or workstation so the spec war on android is pointless

the only thing on mobile phones that should receive regular updates are gpu and batteryB

remember that wp runs smooth on single core

people want a phone for calls, text, video, music and games

having twelve cores and 4gb of ram doesnt improve the basic needs of a phone

what most phone users want when surveyed are 1. better battery life and 2. smooth performance

again 4k screens, xeon processors and 32gb of ram dont provide that

Good point gazmatic. You're totally right. I actually never looked at the spec war this way. It's indeed pointless; better specs do not mean better phone. An efficient use of resorces is more important. There are so many other factors to consider, and like you said, these are the ones that matter the most to people. Very well said.

Erm.. were u replying to me??i never said anything about the specs of a phone..i was talking about how MS can make their desktop os evn better than it already is..
And btw spec race on android doesnt only focus on better processors but better gpu too...like the upcoming exynos 5420..WP lacks on both.. AND better processor and more ram does pave the way for better apps..better specs=better apps.. native stuff runs smooth on wp but i hv seen the time it takes to open some of the "heavy" apps(not that wp has many)..
like i said earlier MS is the best at desktop os..but nothing special at mobile ones..evn symbian was somewhat same imo..

But softwares are being more heavier and some people need higher hardware specs. for example, i'm using my phone as a emulator of engineering calculator. It takes over one minute to calculate a little complex calculation. It is not enough for me
