Will the 8" space be the next big battlefield for tablet manufacturers?

0. phoneArena posted on 19 Apr 2013, 07:16

What is your preferred screen size for a tablet? Is it 10 inches or 7 inches? How about 8 inches? According to Chinese research firm TrendForce, tablet manufacturers will be focusing a lot of effort into establishing their foothold in the 8" space, as that tends to be the new sweet-spot for a tablet screen size...

For me, I think that 7" is enough, cuz 7" is already big and it is easy to hold for a tablet! :)

8 inches is perfectly fine.
7 inch tablets the display is already too small.

7" tablets are easy to carry, easy to hold!

And it is not small, its just because of the low resolution, try the Nexus 7, things will be different!

7'' is perfect, easy to bring with you anywhere, easy to hold with one hand, light and with a proper display (high resolution) easy to read.
If your 7/8'' tablet is not easy to read, it is not because of the small screen, but because of the low resolution. Try a Nexus 7 (or similar) and you'll be very happy with the 7'' format!

7'' is perfect for me too, but I wouldn't mind if they reduce the bezel to make it more compact or even to fit a bigger screen.

i prefer a 8-10" display because most modern phones are 5+" but as for portability , 7" is the best

I actually like the 8" as far as they are 4:3 or 16:10 in format. I find 16:9 OK for 7 inches, but for 8 inches it's too long to use in portrait mode and feels awkward.

7 is still the best,8"started just because of apple. But still,I wouldn't mind if manufacturers will just continue to offer bigger tabs

I've loved the 8 inch form factor since the xyboard 8.2 came out. I think 7 is great for reading books but not for a fully functioning tablet.

I have a Samsung GT P7320 8.9" and it's perfect for me, my wife and kids we all want to use it as first option... the clumsy 10" is left aside.

8" or 10" with 4:3 aspect ratio, basically an ipad or ipad mini. i wouldn't mind the 8" galaxy note but for the price it needs a higher res screen and better connectivity.

Im pretty satisfied with the form factor of my Playbook, which has a 7 inch display. The bezels are bigger than similar 7" tablets like the kindle fire or Nexus 7, Im sure with the right design the same form factor could accomidate a 8" tablet, so I think that 8 is a good size.

I like the 10 inch ones.
IMO tablets should be as big as full sized magazines since its best for reading and browsing the web.
I personally wont feel the big difference if I held a 7 or my phone since its a note 2 -_-

Why go for 7 when you have your phone?
games you say? get a PS3/Xbox, chances are you own a TV and games from dedicated hardware is better and you can also play on your phone.
Reading and browsing you say? chances are you already have a bigger screen laptop or PC.

i currently own the Ttab 7.7 and to me, that's about the perfect size. my roommate has the Nexus 7 and i really prefer looking at my tablet better.
as far as portability...... not gonna be carrying around tablets out either way.. doesn't matter... just up and down the stairs around my house?
so i think i'd prefer the 8 now.. especially now that i'm used to my Note II

I have personally built mock up 16 by 9 screens and find that in that aspect ratio of screen height to screen width that the 8 inch 16 by 9 tablet is the smallest one can go to use Microsoft office on or to read an electronic version of a paper back novel on. the 8 inch 4 by 3 aspect ratio tablet is not bad ether. i have held an Ipad mini and if one came with a retina display i would buy one.and i am a Windows 8 tablet fan. the best 16 by 9 aspect ratio screen size tablet computer to hold in the human hand is the 9 inch diagonal 16 by 9. The screen height is 4 and 6/16 of an inch by 7 and 13/16 of an inch with 1/4 inch bezel.. it is not awkward to hold in the portraiture or landscaped position. unfortunately no one has built a 9 inch-16 by 9 .aspect ratio screen, Damn what a shame it's one sweet tablet computer screen. Oh well one can dream!

7 inches are perfect for carrying around. In fact if someone can come up with 6-7 inch phones, then u will not need a tablet at all.

While we are at it how about a real thin and lightweight 12 -14 inch tablet with hd resolution. I would love to have such a device.
