Why does the Samsung GALAXY Note II have an 8MP camera and the LG Optimus G sports a 13MP shooter?

So why doesn't the Samsung GALAXY Note II sport a 13MP camera? Early speculation called for the son of phablet to carry a 13MP shooter on its back although the Korean OEM had to settle for an 8MP camera due to a CMOS shortage at Sony...

Makes sense. What's the point of taking risk with production just for a single component? And 13MP camera means even lesser pixel size considering same sensor area.

The LG Intuition has a 8MP camera, not 13.

You're right. And Nokia also taught us not to fake our photos and videos.

oh god, someone can't get over the fact that nokia admitted it that it's from a prototype. they didn't even said in the video that it was from 920. Grow up kid.

who cares really? I would really not want more than 5MP if the OEMs would just focus on optics and quality.. 13MP on a sensor that tiny is just stupid.

Right, I don't care as well. I'm not buying this phone 'coz of its camera anyway. If I want a camera, I'll buy a camera.

r u fcking kidding me..... do u really think that u gonna buy phone having a 8 meg or 13 meg with the same price point and spec.... its like telling dual core is better than the quad....

You must be kidding your self. As people have mentioned above, it's not about the megapixels, it's about the optics and technology in the sensor. Also, you must not know much about mobile processors. If you cared to do a little research, you'd know that an S4 dual-core processor is more powerful than a quad-core Tegra 3.

its simply mean that with with 13 meg u gonna have much improve optic and sensorand more details... hope u get stuck with 8 meg for life...XD

that doesnt mean anything of the sort actually. it just means it takes a larger picture file size. We HOPE that they improve the optics as well, but you cant tell until they do test shots and comparisons.

But unfortunately, all games for the S4 and Exynos chips will be watered down THD versions.

Hello, welcome to technology, where the cores and megapixels don't matter! Really, the dual-core S4 scores higher in benchmarks than the quad-core Tegra 3 and K3-V2 at the same clock speed. And the Nokia Lumia 920 PureView 8 MP camera will most likely be better than most advertised 13 MP cameras. It's all about the architectures and the optics.

Everyone is making it seem like having a camera with 8 megapixels will always produce better pictures than one with 13 megapixels. Are we all completely forgetting the possibility of a phone with more megapixels and great picture quality? Seems like everyone is making excuses.

To anyone who is saying it doesn't matter if 8 or 13 megapixel : It dose matter big time...it's like saying BMW 520i is better than BMW 530i

Cars are not megapixels, sorry. Bad logic is bad.

No its not.

in car logic it would be like comparing a 530i F10 to a 540i E39. the 540i may have been built as a higher class of car than the 530i but the newer F10 even as a 530i outclasses the 540i E39.

that may have been what happened with the Razr HD's too considering the strong evidence there was for it indeed having a 13MP Sensor but instead coming with an 8MP one. o:
