We've got our hands on the Xperia X Performance: join us for an unboxing
The Sony Xperia Z is dead, long live the Xperia X! Yes, Sony has changed the name of its flagship line to symbolize a re-imagining of the way it goes about smartphones. The Sony Xperia XA, Xperia X, and Xperia X Performance are probably among the most anticipated smartphones this year, if only just because we are curious to see what Sony has done differently, and whether it is for the better.

So far, we've had a stab at the upper midrange Xperia X and, unfortunately, the handset definitely left us disappointed. However, we are still hopeful for the top-of-the-line Xperia X Performance. Well, we just got it, and as we get ready to put it through its paces, we invite you to join us for our unboxing experience with the new flagship!

I am a bit disappointed about the new x series, was expecting more, but it's just the same phones with snapdragon 820. Really hope they introduce x performance ultra with 6inch bezeless screen, snapdragon 823/821 and 4k display, it would be awesome for ps4 game streaming

Too true. I still have my copper Z3 and God that phone is still a looker to this day. Scrolling seems quite choppy on this X model and the design so antiquated. They've gone back several steps.

This is the most unattractive Sony flagship phone in years but still looks better than Samsung flagship. Really shows how ugly Samsung soap bar looking design is.

Does bashing Samsung for no valid reason pleasure you or something?

I've never been a fan of Samsung designs, but Galaxy S7 has one of the best ergonomic designs out there. The phone feels premium, compact, and I feel so comfortable using it with a single hand. You can't say the same with Sony's Xperia phones. They look elegant, but not ergonomic.

hmm.. so are you talking about people with small hands.. or maybe with big hands.. Based on what a device is ergonomic for you would be ergonomic for everybody? I used so far Sony Z series with no ergonomic issue, fits pretty well in my hand. Pity Sony is not more competitive on the price level.. They are trying to compete with other companies in the flagship segment instead of running over competitors with good prices..

You are the minority. Many would say Samsung stepped up thier design eversince thr release of the S6. The Z5 on the other hand looks like a brick.

Surprise surprise! The usual jab at Samsung when it's not mentioned in the article. Pathetic as always lol.

So Sony does exactly what Apple and Samsung does. They do an incremental upgrade ie faster processor, slightly better cams etc and they get slammed for it whilst Apple gets praised?

I don't think Sony has the aforementioned cache of the other two brands you mentioned, at least not in the smartphone business. Having said that, this phone is gorgeous :D.

I went for the Z5, it cost half the price and have better battery. No regrets at all. The Z5 is a superb phone, especially after the updates!

True, unlike what PA and many of its readers who haven't even touched an Xperia want to make you believe, it's an excellent phone. I can't wait for its 'true' successor, wich will hopefully be the Z6.

If Sony continues this way I think my Z5 Premium will be my last Sony phone.
