I'll miss the lightning then, but I'm not worried - this is not Apple-like behavior.

Yep, would be nice if you could plug your iPhone into your MacBook without needing to buy an adaptor

What exactly are you going to miss? It's just a charging port for the most part? Looking forward to buying another adapter? Because Apple makes the coolest adapters...right? The Lightning port offered no true benefit to the phone. To me its no different than USB Type C. What's so dumb is Apple is part of the commission for USB Type C, yet didnt even put it on their own phone. Apple chose Lightning only because its proprietary and requires licensing for accessory makes. Apple goign to the standard USb Type C is likely because they were blasted by MacBook users who were complaining they can't charge their iPhone's on the Mac with buying $30 adapters which Apple should have included but are typical as being cheap dogs. Yet you all brag about how much money they make. Can't even onclude a cheap $1 adapter in the box. So much for that seamless integration BS they are always preaching. After an initial purchase of $800 for a phone and $40 for a case, and $40 for a very good screen protector for their so easy to damage products, the last thing I want to do is by some stupid adapter to even be able to use it and spend another $30. Just because I have the jack, doesn't mean I want to waste it on stupid things.

It will be the great kindness on customers. Go for type c apple.

I think the sources for this news might be mistaken. I think the iPhones will include in the box a lightning to usb-c cable instead of the current lightning to usb-a. That might just be what this is all about. It is far too unApple-ish behavior to actively not shaft your customers and therefore, it is unlikely that they will switch the main port on their iPhones to usb-c.

I won't miss anything because I've already had it for years, instead of lame one way charging ports ;) I'll just have a different version of it now.

There are comparability issues with the way each usbc cable is made - Has this problem been resolved yet? Having proprietary port - I know that ANY accessory I buy or ANY cable I buy is made to work with my device specifically - it was made for iphone!!!! https://www.google.com/amp/amp.androidcentral.com/usb-c-problem-isnt-going-away-anytime-soon https://www.google.com/amp/www.pcworld.com/article/3002064/computers-accessories/beware-bad-usb-c-cables-google-engineer-warnswhile-naming-names.amp.html http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/08/28/anker-issues-recall-and-replacements-after-researcher-demonstrates-unsafe-usb-c-cables/

Funny i sell load of android with usb c and none had issue with good brand cable. This is like cheap third party cable for iphone. If you buy cheap one you in trouble if you buy good one you wont have issue easy.

Just buy Made For iPhone certified accessories I highly doubt Apple will ever end their MFi certification

Apple chose Lightning only because its proprietary and requires licensing for accessory makes. -Whats your point? Sounds like a good business plan to me. You don't use an Apple so why do you care so much? Nothing they do affects you directly.

I'm curious, why would you miss the lightening?

See post #62. I explained. "There are comparability issues with the way each usbc cable is made - Has this problem been resolved yet? Having proprietary port - I know that ANY accessory I buy or ANY cable I buy is made to work with my device specifically - it was made for iphone!!!!" This may not matter to you or some others, but considering that a wrong USB-C cable can (and has) damage your device - I'll take the piece of mind route.

Watch out if you use android USB-c cable and charger your iphone gonna explode lol

I'm such confident that it won't happen that if it happens, I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy an iPhone 8. There's absolutely no reason for Apple to switch. Lightning is giving them solid revenue through overpriced accesories. It also gives them control on how much to milk the sheep. If they go to USB, that's all gone unless Apple manages to fool the people that Apple made type C are more 'premium'. That would be funny AF though.

Why would you say sheep? iPhone is really good and like LG said that they going for experience not spec. Beside iPhone performances better than any Android phone IMO. Apps crashes in iOS but it's so rear instance that you won't even notice and if even app crashes whole system don't hangs as on Android often happens. I have Pixel XL I love its display and performance and yes that access to file system but App experience in iPhone is superior IMHO again. I am long been Android user and I used to be HTC fan. If iPhone had AMOLED display I see too little reason I be using Pixel a lot. In start I used to get happy with new features but now for most part they feel gimmicks and not as exciting as they once used to be. Over the year my preference in mobile changes like from display to software features to sound to software experience. S8 might change it but display and software features where Samsung excel but sound and software experience experience is not I like on Samsung.

I didn't imply in any way that iPhone sucks. Did I? In fact, I own an iPad air 2 and I love iPhones. Besides, I don't even own a Samsung.

They'll probably still include that proprietary "made for iPhone" authentication chip in their cables.

I do think that they'll keep the lightning as it is but change the other end of the cable from USB A to C imo

50. Tyrion_Lannister unregistered

That will obviously happen since macbooks don't have type A connectors anymore.

That will allow them to plug in their phone to a MacBook, but the headphones would still require an adapter to make them work.

I bet it will some of their engenders helped develop the type c. Apple is doing lots of things that they said they would never do like a stylus and physical keyboard on the Ipad pro. Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave with those announcements.
