ViewSonic files a trademark application for the "ViewPhone"
1

ViewSonic announced back in the Spring that it wants to enter the smartphone business, fulfilling a vision for a device portfolio from "3 inches to 300 inches". The popular display maker was able to be one of the first with a dual-core Android tablet for $399, but the Staples batch was subsequently recalled to remedy hardware issues.

The company has now filed an application for the "ViewPhone" name, and it has a tradition of outing a device for almost each and every brand it has applied for. It will most probably be running Android, and, judging from ViewSonic's tablet foray, it might even sport a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset. ViewSonic's stuff has always had appealing design, too, so we might have another source for nice and reasonably-priced Android phones in 2011. Fingers crossed for the dual-core scenario.
