A video put together by Buzzfeed shows how Apple prepared for the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus launch starting all the way back with the September 12th unveiling of the new handsets. When pre-orders for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple TV 4K started on September 15th, several Apple engineers were sitting in Apple's "War Room" to track the incoming orders and to make sure things were running smoothly.

Making sure that all of the finished iPhone units arrive at Apple Stores on time, and on the doorsteps of those who ordered one, is Apple's Senior VP of Retail Angela Ahrendts. The executive points out that on the opening night of pre-orders, half of them come through the App Store app because it is the fastest way to get an iPhone reserved. A quick tap of the Touch ID button, and an iPhone can be pre-ordered.

Starting two days before launch, Ahrendts got the Apple Stores pumped for launch day by visiting a number of locations and meeting with the staff. Meanwhile, the UPS Worldport facility in Kentucky is getting ready to ship out all of those iPhone units received directly from factories in China. Because of the sheer volume of the cargo being shipped, UPS uses an entire room just to handle the shipping of the iPhone handsets. Some of the phones go to Apple Stores, and other go to those who pre-ordered one.

While it seems like magic, the whole process requires the tireless work of many, many hard working people. Some work for Apple, some work for other companies like UPS. The bottom line is that they are all working together to make ordering a new iPhone model, and having it arrive at your door or at the Apple Store, quite seamless.
