Good news for HTC One M9 owners in the United States, as the two-year-old smartphone is now getting its second major Android OS update. The device that made its debut at Verizon with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board is being updated to Nougat over the next few days.

Verizon confirmed on its support website that HTC One M9 is eligible for Android 7.0 Nougat, an update that brings quite a lot of new features and improvements. Also, the carrier announced the update includes the latest Android security updates and bug fixes.

To recap, Android Nougat brings multi-window and split-screen view, more Settings app options, quicker multi-tasking, additional reply options and lots of other visual and performance improvements.

If you own Verizon's HTC One M9 smartphone, you might want to check that your battery is fully charged before starting the software update. The Big Red states the update is pushed OTA and can be captured via Verizon's network or Wi-Fi.

We can safely say Android Nougat will be the last major software update that the HTC One M9 will receive, although the smartphone might continue to get security updates for some time.
