Verizon rolls out new Galaxy Note 8 update, Live focus and security improvements included

Verizon has released a new OTA update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The latest upgrade should bump the software version of the 6.3-inch phablet to N950USQU2BQJA

So, is there anything new worthy of mentioning? Well, Live focus (Samsung's own take on Portrait Mode) is getting some neat quality-of-life improvements.

The "Live focus ready" button now has a bright yellow background, which should make it super easy to spot. When you switch to that mode, you should notice that there are new "+" and "-" icons on each side of the "background blur" slider for easier navigation.

Live focus also needs a certain amount of light to work properly, so the camera app will now notify you if additional lighting is required. Last but not least, a new "back" button has been added to the app in order to take you to the normal camera mode. You can see the new changes below.

The update also brings a bunch of security enhancements. On board is the Android Security patch for the month of October. This is a bit strange, as the November patch has been out for some time, but, at the end of the day, any additions to security are welcome. A fix for the KRACK Wi-Fi exploit is also included.

The update is available OTA, but it might need some time to reach all compatible devices. You can check for it manually by going to Settings > About Device > Software Updates. As always, make sure that your phone is sufficiently charged and connected to a Wi-Fi network before proceeding with the patch.
