Verizon axes top shared data tier, is making a heavy internal push to promote Share Everything plans

According to our sources Verizon has axed it's 30 GB shared data plan, but is handsomely compensating employees who convince you to switch to any other Share Everything plan...

I work for verizon I promise, and they are not forcing you to switch. And we are calling customers and it is saving a lot of customers money. Think about it. From the CURRENT plans that are available now , an unlimited text plan with 700 mins runs $99.99. Just by having 2 smart phones on that account, you add $60 ($30 per smart phone habing 2GB each line,), so you pay $160 before tax. New plan gives you unlimited minutes, unlmited text, and you share data 4GBs of data. It will run you $150 a month. You save atleast $10 dollars plus get the advantage of sharing the data. Since everyone does not use data the same. If one line uses 1 GB, and other uses 3Gb, you are still ok. If this was the current plan, The line that used 3GB would be billed for overage since it exceeded the 2Gb limit. I hope this make sense. Verizon is not pushing extra to switch. But If it makes financial sense for the customer and they agree why would you not like to maximze the value of new plans when they become available?

There is no doubt that the Share Everything plans can save some people a lot of money - although it won't save people money if they are on a grandfathered unlimited plan (which by the words of Verizon CFO Fran Shammo is exactly the point).

The point is that according to some employees there is direct compensation for getting people to switch - that doesn't mean anyone is being forced, or that it may not help some people, just that in some cases the salesperson may have a specific incentive, so we are urging customers to do their homework before they go in.

Informed customers are a good idea in general, regardless of carrier.

Informed customers are always good. It makes everyones job involved a lot easier when the customer, who pays the bill, knows what they are paying for and what they are getting for what they pay. Those with unlimited, even now, some use more then 5 Gb, but not often. Those who do use more data, can keep unlmited data. They have that option, but might not like the fact of paying full retail for a phone or bringing in a phone from another source, ( example: friend, family, ebay/craigslist) but that options are still there.

I am chiming in for the Northeast area of Verizon, WE ARE NOT being compensated to change people over to the new share everything plans. I understand this might be different from region to region but in the Northeast we want to advise our customers and provide them with the best possible solution, even if that means staying on their current plan.

Good the hear Stormhaven, although you may want to check back in over the next week or so...some of it may roll out with additional training.

Also, I want to be clear that many sales reps at all of the carriers actually want to help customers regardless of the compensation model - I know too many to believe they are all out to get us. But I still think it's important to relay this information when we get it so customers can be prepared - if you do happen to draw a less scrupulous sales rep, it's probably too late to inform yourself.

We appreciate your comments - much like other internal goals and compensation, we need to remember that Verizon (and other carriers) also vary their strategy in different markets. It's easy to imagine early 3G markets (where a lot of the grandfathered contracts are) perhaps being an area where associates get more of an incentive.

How many people honestly agree with everything their employers do? I doubt there are many. We do the best we can, and in customer service, as long as we keep the customer's interests at heart and do the best we can for them, that is the most important thing bro.

It is not a sales pitch, since I am not trying to sell you on anything. Just informing you on what the new rate plan is, to help better understand VZW's new rate plans. Again, I am not shore why the personal shots are being takin here. I am no way selling anything. Just informing. Being a Verizon unlimited customer, Im paying.... For 2 phones

I pay $170

Last month combined we used about 24gb of data which was the most we ever used by a long shot. We've been watching Netflix and using any possible thing web related most of the day all month. I'm definitely saving money with my unlimited data plan. Why would unlimited mins be a benefit if a whole lot of people had Verizon mobile to mobile to begin with and they even had unlimited friends & family? We havent had a landline for years and we only went over our mins 1x.

This is just a gimmick for people to give up their unlimited plans. I SIGNED for unlimited and I should continue to get unlimited without harassment and Verizon's BS... If I want to use 50+ gbs then I should be able to since that is what they ONCE promoted without any damn throttling. They should never over a service their not willing to give.

How about going to Red Robin and they promote BOTTOMLESS fries and they give you ONE fry every 30 mins. ? LOL
Then they harass you about your order...

Verizon has not promoted unlimited data in a year now. You can keep it you will just have to buy your phones at retail. Your current unlimited data is valid and will be so until you sign a new agreement. If you don't sign a new agreement, you are fine.

I understand your frustration, but please don't complain about things being "promoted". I'm sure it was promoted a year ago or longer, but not anymore.

No offense, guys, but corporate Verizon employees are the biggest Kool-Aid drinkers in the indusrtry. I used to sell for a National Retailer and I always put Verizon first. But now, they are no better than AT&T.

I can't stick up for these clowns anymore.

Here's one for you: So, if I am continuing to use or bring my own phone to the picnic, why is my bill still so high? Forget that my data is still "unlimited", I need that for all the skunkware you people put on my phone. If your not subsidizing my phone anymore, then why in the world would I still be paying the fortune I am? Maybe you should take off your rose-colored glasses and figure that one out, go ask your boy Fran Shamu.

I'm sure I'll get the usual prep-and-roll answer here from some overpaid Big Red jockey.

Since when does getting a phone affect plan pricing? If you buy a phone full retail, great, no contract. If you want a subsidized phone, sign a 2 year contract... why do you assume that just because you're bringing your own phone will have an affect on your bill? Do any carriers lower your bill if you provide your own phone?

While being a great Verizon customer paying all my bills on time and at times paying in advance...

... Why would I not be offered great phones at a low price RENEWING my 2 year contract? All while KEEPING the contract I started with. Theyre still making good money with me. I pay more than $2000 dollars a year without going over. I didnt even get my Razr free. I paid $300 and $600 is retail... Verizon doesnt pay $600 so how much do they mark it up? Maybe theyre just breaking even. So in a sense its like Im still paying for the phone, and they are just putting a little on top.

Id rather just switch to Sprint as soon as they get LTE in my area, then its bye bye Verizon.

Do you really believe it will be different at Sprint who is cash starved and is going to have to pick up their margins to stay competitive? That's a good one. Just buy phones on ebay and don't sign a contract or recognize that this is the way the business works and stop moaning

Ive been paying for my phones, most likely at their cost. So therefore they MIGHT had been losing very little and is definately not a loss when Im paying thousands a year. FYI.

And some dont require returns FYI. again for the TV example. We had dish and kept ALL equipment when we cancelled years ago. And later we only returned the boxes, not the dish.

Actually I'm surprised they haven't thought of this yet - offer a cheap 42 inch flat screen for a locked-in 2 year commitment that doesn't happen to include your best offers. I bet they'd make a killing.

Just like with any product out in the market, once it is no longer offered, produced, manufactured, you can no longer obtain it. Same goes with what you started with. You signed a 2 yr contract, both parties fulfilled there ends. Now since the contract ended, neither party is legally bound to one another. So if you would like great phones with a low price, and renew a contract, you will have to choose a current rate plan that is offered to take advantage of lower priced equipment. Things are changing, and everyone will have to think about data from now on. That's all man. I understand your frustration, but it's going to happen sooner or later.

Because as progressive as their network may be, the people making the decisions are fifty- sixty years old men. Yeah, this gimmick would had worked six years ago, but as you so eloquently pointed out, most folks use mobile to mobile and free apps.

Your reasoning and math sounds logical, but you have to remember one thing, most people don't spend hours talking on the phone. I'll use me as an example: (2) lines current share plan, 700 minutes; no text plan, why?, already paying for data. math: 69.00 -15% + 60/4G data+ taxes gov. crap blah blah = $135

***Yes new Share have unlimited voice(most friends/family have Verizon), text (iMessage+Google voice), and 1G of data for two lines, also have to pay an additional $6/month(compared to old plan), don't think so. If they really cared about the consumer they would had made the data allotment at least 4G. Wasn't Verizon the one professing the fact most users don't exceed 750M? so what is the problem? I'll tell you, they're hoping most exceed it, so they can charge an additional $10/G.

If overages really were the goal, don't you think they would have set it closer to minute overages? $0.45/min vs. $10/GB overage... Just saying, I don't think overages were the goal here

I am one that it will save money for.... but I will be giving up unlimited data on 1 line. I just signed up for a 3 line family plan and it will save me a great deal of money....

What I wanna know is....how come I never heard about the 20GB and 30GB amounts before today???
