Popular image editing app VSCO has slowly, but steadily, working its way toward becoming a self-contained social network of sorts, where photographers can share their creations and, as of the latest update, get in touch with each other via private messages. The messaging feature is available through the new sharing button, and it lets creators not only text each other, but also share profiles, journal entries, photos, and more.

The news of VSCO's instant messaging feature come on the heels of Instagram's announcement that the company is testing a standalone app for Direct messages, Facebook Messenger-style.

Messaging will be available to VSCO X paid subscribers initially, but it will gradually roll out to everyone in the following weeks. Users will be able to chat with people who follow them and will also be able to block and report content that they don't want to receive.
