Users report iPhones 6 and 6s turning off by themselves, cause not yet identified

Fans and users of the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s devices have reported that after updating to the new iOS 9.0.2, their handsets have started acting cranky on random occasions. Apparently, the phones will decide to turn themselves off — no matter if the user is currently operating the device, or it's just on standby — and the only way to fix them is to perform a hard-restart (hold down the home and power buttons for as many seconds as it takes for the Apple logo to reappear on the screen).

Had someone bring an iPad in my office the other day with the same issue. Only a hard reset would get it to come on. I was setting up a brand new iPad out of the box a couple of weeks ago and it shut down while I was doing the set up.

iPhones are committing suicide simply after the realisation that they're iPhones.

So? Millions of phones sold, lots of people won't experience. Consider yourself lucky. Just don't discount the fact, people are having problems. Millions of products are sold everyday, many people have problems, the vast majority never will. Millions of ailments plague people. Just because less people are sick vs those who are sick, don't mean it isn't a problem and doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything about it.

This is one of the rare cases that I totally agree with you.

I got nearly all friends with 6's and 6s's (and +'s) and guess what - NONE have experience any of the issues reported since iOS9 came out... I think going to apple support forums and fishing for a post of some unlucky soul that has an issue just to report "Some users" is becoming a norm these days... I guess iOS9 isnt delivering any newsworthy problems = so one has to fish for individual posts just to make an article, we all know anything with word "apple" or "iphone" sells an article...

My thoughts exactly Alik. I haven't had one of these issues yet, and the updates to iOS 9 doesn't list fixes for them. Makes me wonder if they even exist, cause I haven't found them anywhere. On another note, the 6S Plus battery life is outstanding. I've only been able to kill the battery once, and that was during a day off from work, when I purposely tried to. Great device.

You guys don't know the cause??? I know the cause: 'ITS FAULTY HARDWARE' And Apple would say 'YOU ARE USING IT WRONG' and iSheeps be like, 'OH, OUR FAULT, APPLE'S SO PERFECT, HOW CAN THEY EVER BE WRONG'

It's a new feature, unique and revolutionary, the iPhone magically enters in a quantum state where it isn't on nor turned off, that is beyond what any of it's competitors can try to achieve.

I am curious as to why the iPhone 6 would be having this issue since its a year old. The issue has to be linked to the update. Jail-breakers have to hold off on coming up with an exploit because it will just get patched again with 9.04. By the time iOS X comes, version 9 will have over 10 updates at this pace. Even Android doesn't have that many patches. Again when you consider operating system like Windows and Android, that have to work on what could be literally 1000's of hardware configurations, they both have far less issues than Apple. With a whole year to test a new version of iOS, with only one phone that runs it; a release shouldnt have this type of issue just days. Software is aways work in progress, but the quality of iOS is not what it use to be.

They need to cut on the margin and increase quality inssurance departement. They need to put more money in each phone made and stop been money hungry. Giving just enuf dont cut it anymore!!!!

Moronrun, you keep posting your fanboy s**t, you're gonna get fed fanboy s**t... So, They [Apple] need to cut on the margin and increase quality inssurance departement? They NEED to put more money in each phone made? Giving just enuf dont cut it anymore???? iPhone 6s is the fastest phone to date... I think that's some ingenuity considering it accomplishes that with fraction of hardware that of flagship androids. I bet if Apple puts their brains together they can make a mouse in a wheel processor faster than best of Android.. (joking, but hence the point)... But lets consider money hungry corporations for a sec. They [Android OEM's] need to put more money in their own OS then you can talk s**t... They are saving billions not having to maintain the ecosystem that's done for them by Google. Just give it "ENUF" specs to run this thing smooth for a few month and throw on Freeware OS, overlay with a launcher (which is loaded with bloatware that paid for portion of the device, so that your precious Manufacturer gets their extra dollar out of your device that YOU paid for without the care that you HATE the s**t they preload on YOUR device)... THATS MONEY HUNGRY in my book... At least my iPhone is clean, gives me control over everything, and doesnt do s**t i dont need it to!!!

PA is wrong, if it turns itself off until the iPhone 6s. I think the final score for this trick must have excellent PA 10.3

Nitwits took the clickbait to jump at the opportunity to bash the iPhone not knowing that iPhones have been doing this since the 3G and had NEVER stopped like P. Diddy. I've seen this happen with the 4, 4S, 5, 5C & 5S. My coworker thought her 6 Plus was dead. Held down the home & power buttons until it booted. It's still a machine & it's still prone to malfunction, EVEN the iPhone. It just works, like everything else.

Sorry but i work at a cellshop and iphone 5 and earlier where near perfection for stability. Its started to go down the drain with the 5S and every new release its less and less stable and have more and more issues. Android on other hand is going oposite way its has less and less bug and is more and more stable. the most funny is both are copying from each other lol. Also none of my android phone since the optimus G from LG ever shutdown or frozen on me ( some android do it but much less than iphones ) i do reboot my phone from time to time but never because its frozen.
