Smartphone OS competition is great for all of us. Now that Firefox OS has been released and their 2 launch phones are already sold out, i think there's a pretty good chance of Ubuntu enjoying a successful launch next year, although sooner would have been better. Android is gobbling up the smartphone market much faster than others can keep up with. Good luck, Ubuntu!

I wonder how the app support would work for Ubuntu. Will Ubuntu users be able to access google play apps like blackberry or how would it work for them?

Canonical is taking a native/HTML5 approach to apps. Native apps will be written using Qt/QML. There is no reason to expect support for Android apps in Ubuntu.

ubunto would be great for older smartphones if they support it. its going to be lightweight and stable and open. in comparison to android which is resource hog and finally stable (dependent on resource again) and open

JAVA is a resource HOG.
That's a unique JAVA Feature
I am waiting for UB UTNU phone too ... apps count of 1 billion doesn't make a difference for users like me :)
