UIQ Technology unveils UIQ 3.0

In conjuction with the release of Symbian OS 8.0, the UIQ technology unveils UIQ 3.0 - the new version of the UIQ Platform. The new release of Symbian-based Platform offers the choice of developing smaller form factor smartphones with either pen-based, touch-screen operation or full one-handed operation devices. The Operator Configuration Package offers extensive configuration opportunities for operators, which will facilitate service differentiation.

UIQ is user-interface platform based on Symbian OS, especially designed for advanced, media rich mobile phones and has been incorporated in six successful mobile phone families: the Sony Ericsson P900 and P800 smartphones, BenQ P30 and the Motorola's 3G A920, A925 and A1000 phones. UIQ based phones gives access to enterprise applications, email, multimedia clips, web pages and also provides support for advanced gaming possibilities.

UIQ 3.0 is expected to be available by Q4 2004 with phones shipping in 2005.
