U.S. unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 edge receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge start getting Android 8.0 Oreo in the U.S.
Despite the fact that unlocked smartphones usually receive major Android OS update faster than their carrier-bounded siblings, Samsung is an exception to the rule. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often, so you're still safe to buy a Samsung flagship going forward.

One example of awful management of software updates is the Galaxy S7, which hasn't yet received its promised Android 8.0 Oreo update in the United States, even though all major carriers in the country have already released it.

But that issue is about to be addressed by Samsung, as the South Korean handset maker has just kicked off the rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo for Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The event hasn't been marked by Samsung in any way, but many users in the U.S. owning the unlocked version of either of the two smartphones noticed the update is now live.

Keep in mind that this is a pretty sizable update, which requires 1.5GB storage. We have yet to learn what security patch is included in the update, but even if it's an older one, you can be sure that Samsung will continue to push out security updates for about one more year.
