Timely rumor: Apple cuts monthly build of the Apple Watch in half to 1.25 million-1.5 million units

According to a report issued out of China this morning, Apple's plan to build 2.5 million to 3 million units monthly of the Apple Watch has turned out to be too ambitious a goal. Part of the reason stems from the lower than expected yield seen on the production of the display by LG. Due to the use of plastic instead of glass, manufacturing the plastic OLED screen has been more difficult than hoped with yields approaching a range of 30%-40%...

Lol, preparing the excuses and hype machine ahead of time. Cover all your bases early so you don't look bad no matter what happens.

problem is 95% of people cant justify buying a $700 watch they wont buy a tag or movado for that so why apple watch. that more than the iphone and does nothing and to top it off not subbed like the phones.

Apple watch or any smart watch for that matter will not that be sucessful especially with the extremely poor battery life. I don't mind charging my phone daily but I do not want to unstrap a watch and charge daily. With a standard watch some people just leave it on their wrist even when they sleep and lasts years without a replacement. Apple watch is not even waterproof. Another fail... Don't submerge in water or take a shower with it.

Yes, it is much better. Wait for the tests of a production model. Also the back camera is far more important than the front one.

Let's compare pre-released software to a phone with finalized software. Logic.

Whatever gives you a better sleep at night buddy. And no, the S6 is not released in Saudi Arabia yet, my friend was there for a 3omra 2 days ago and he says you're lying, and i ll be there also for a 3omra on the 3rd of April and i am pretty sure that even then it won't be released. I bet you missed the part where Samsung announced it will be released on the 10th of April.

Man can you just knock it off and stop acting like a little kid stocking me on every comment I post? Get a life, because this is my last reply to your annoying comments.

There's many things to point out that clearly show that it is not an S6. This website is definitely pro Apple btw, if you take a look over the whole site, they always take wise cracks at each Android, but Apple always stays hidden in the dark unless something a tinsy bit good happens. It's Apple's fault, they don't send out invites to review sites that do not like them, as many review sites have had the letter from Apple saying "No more invites for you" when someone speaks their mind about them.

Even with 1.5M a month half of them will sit few months on the shelves.

It's Apple. They sell trough their inventory in at most a week or two. If they start filling up, they lower production imediatelly. It's not like samsung that will make 60 million phones in few months which they will be selling for the few upcomming years like with galaxy S6.

True. Apple's immense profitability (and the reason Tim Cook was made CEO) lies in their ability to have a near-zero product turnaround time. The less time a product sits on a shelf, the less it decreases in value.

I just don't see a massive amount of people buying the Apple Watch like market annalists are predicting. They're incredibly expensive, no subsidies, have no functionality that's not already on the phone they're required to connect to in order for the device to work. And the watch comes in one style (rounded rectangle). Of course you can buy it in various metals, and get after market wrist straps, but if the single design doesn't do it for you then you're completely out of luck.

Thats the dark side you describe...but on the other side - the brighter one, you ll see millions of happy iFaces staying lines to get one of these. The first iFace that will come out of the Apple store - screaming loud and applauded by other iFaces that where lined in a week later then him. He will be welcomed by press and TV - giving interview how happy his iface is right now cause he threw his money for a...watch...sorry, iWatch. If good or bad product Apple has, whole Apple story is just a press propaganda.

If they estimate correctly. It didn't work so well with the iPhone 5c.

36. AlikMalix unregistered

5c was third best selling phone at its release, iPhone 5s was #1 at that time. But Apple sold more 5c's than 95% of andrpid phones at that time. I bet Samsung would love their phones to flop like the 5c any year.

And Apple had big stockpiles of them sitting around because they overestimated demand. They had to shift production, make more iPhone 5s and fewer iPhone 5c.

42. AlikMalix unregistered

You got an article to back that up? Because I have studies that puts 5c sales above most android flagships and cheap phones.

Here is the report you are referencing. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-iPhone-5c-rises-from-the-dead-outsells-Android-flagships-Windows-Phone-and-more-in-Q4_id54241 As far as oustselling Android, it doesnt say it ousold all of the Androids sold, but two highend models. And notice how it says the 5c is sold at discount? In September it was only selling for $80 on contract, by October it was down to $45, and by December it was technically selling for free at some places, with retailers selling them for $45 and giving you a $50 gift card with purchase. First, when was the last time you saw a brand new iPhone model being sold for essentially free 3 months after launch? Second, you're comparing sales of high end phones that would've been going for $100-200 to the 5c which was going for free to $45 during that same period. I would imagine selling for free is going to get them many sales.

Something's wrong. This article is an hour old, and Darkjedi hasn't reminded us for the 21465463th time that he has scheduled a paid day off just so he can wait in like for this stupid thing.

he might figured it out that the piece of expensive icrap is uselles for that price point and he ll better be spending that money to repair brakes on his wifes car. Better investment to have car in good condition.

I'm surprised it took you an hour to post another attempt to discredit what he does with his own time.

Even if they sell half a million per month they would have still sold more in three months than any android OEM did in a year. Thats the point, owning a market as a new player in just few months compared to two years that other OEM;s had. Plus being Apple you know next apple watch will come in a year so its not going to be "old" in three months as its the case with samsung smart watches and other OEM's(excluding motorola and kudos to them)
